  • hey jim have you seen the chesnut smooth bone ss trapperlock with the horseshoe shield? its my first trapperlock very nice

  • @jasonwainwright83 I have seen that one but I don't have it ....yet. I think it was a SHC SFO. It's NICE! Glad you got one and you like it.

  • hi jim my name is jason wainwright i have a old camco yellow handle knife with two blades on it one of the bolsters is broken off of the knife do you know who can fix it ?

  • Great collection and vid. Thanks.

  • Jim, It's time for an update video on your Trapperlocks. You must have a few new ones to share with us by now. :) Love your videos, keep up the good work!!

  • @smelpyou Thanks so much! I will get to one yet...;) Been so busy with my NorthernLeather site lately.

  • hey man did you pick up the green john deere who am i kidding now that i think of it i doubt you missed any

  • @MrRampro I still don't have that one yet...

  • @chopperguy801 I mean on the spine. I thought maybe there was a gap because of the liner-lock? Do you have any gaps on the spine of your trapperlocks?

  • @smelpyou Sorry for the late reply...been busy. Mine have absolutely no gaps.

  • Jim, Are there small gaps on the back of your Trapperlocks? I just received my first one and there is a gap between the steel, so I just wanted to know if that was normal or not? Thanks!!

    Nice collection by the way...

  • @smelpyou Congrats on the new knife! By the back do you mean opposite the blade? If so, There should not be any gaps. Everything should fit tight. I do know if there is any issue CASE will make it right.

  • hey i am just getting into collecting pocket knives because i am always sick of all the cheap ones breaking on me so i want a bunch of good quality knives, what would you recommend?? thanks

  • @bmxer2211

Alot depends on what your willing to spend i have been collecting for 20 + years and have at least 400 knives

from various makers. I woud guess at least 200 of them are Case another 100 Boker Tree brand and double tree. Bear & Son is another fine American made brand. I have decited its time to sell off a large part of my collectionj and the investment has paid off in a big way.

  • @wout661 ok thanks for the help!

  • @bmxer2211 You're welcome!

  • r u canadian?

  • @TheWallie2k Yes

  • how much are these trappers? i hve old authentic case knives and i would like these kinds to add to the growing collection.

  • @9mm22c They run about $55 for a yellow handle, to $65 for red bone and other bone handles, to $70 and up for limited editions, and laser etched ones, to over $100 for stag and higher for exotics. Wesson Ace Hardware is a dealer with the best prices around.

  • @chopperguy801 great video! I'm

Working on a collection as well. What do you recommend for rust prevention

    and storage?

  • @jase7725 Thanks! I use Renaissance wax on all my knives. Also called Ren-Wax. It wont hurt any of the finishes, and protects and preserves. Used by many museums on their relics and such. I usually re-apply once a year when I polish them up. You can use it on anything. I store mine in a zippered carry case, and store them with a silica gel to keep moisture out of as well, just to be safe, but the Ren-wax is likely all you need.

  • @chopperguy801 Man, I'm so envious of your collection. I've only got 3 case knives. How many do you have total in your collection?

  • @zslam Thanks! I have about 26 trapperlocks at last count, and about 15 other CASE knives in different patterns.

  • Nice. I like the John Wayne. Not so much because of John Wayne, but the oak handles. Like the yellow (it's delrin, right?), too. Not a big fan of bone and stag 'cause it 1) kinda creeps me out and 2) can shrink over time. I've got an old Imperial Peanut with bone or stag (not sure which) handles that are shrinking away from the bolsters, pins and shield. Still plenty of snap in the springs, though. Got a 1976 Case with bone handles that are holding up so far. Also plenty of snap.

  • @CanItAlready You are correct, the yellow handle is delrin. Wood is good! I just got a Bois D'Arc handled trapperlock that is real nice too. Thanks for watching.

  • nice collection. thats a realy nice red stag

  • @unapologeticsouth Thanks, it was one of the first I got.

  • something I always wanted to know...where do knife companies get that much deer antler? I mean are there deer farms somewhere....anyways nice collection. i own almost all the johnny cash line and one of my CV sodbusters is EDC.

  • @LedZeppelin13k7 From what I understand, The Sambar stag that CASE uses comes from India where the antlers are harvested by men in the game parks who pick up the shedded antlers. It is regulated by the government and huge lots are sold. Sambar stag is preferred because of its qualities. Thanks for watching and thanks for the compliment.

  • very nice collection.

  • Classy knife company gotta get me one Great vid

  • I love those stags!! Nice collection.

  • @ojuist Thanks! I've picked up several more since I shot this, just haven't had time to make a new video. Soon though...

  • Awesome collection . My favorite in yours is the bermuda green case shield. I own a navy blue bone set.

  • @TheJnissen Thanks, Those blue bone sets are beautiful.

  • you sir, are a nutCASE. just kidding, i just got my first case today a sodbuster jr, im lovin it!!!

  • @c0nsci0usness That I am! :)

Sodbusters are great knives!! You won't be disappointed with it.

  • Very nice Jim! Well done man. ~Wolf

  • @FatDaddy4Fun

    Thanks!

  • Question, are case trapperlocks the same quality as a swiss army. Ive never owned a case, but have owned 25.00 swiss armys that have awesome fit and finish. Just wondering if id be happy with the quality. Thanks

  • @MountainAire1103

Well, I would say CASE knives are excellent quality, with great fit and finish. I just started collecting CASE a couple of years ago, and I too have had a few SAK's over the years, though not as many as you, and have always been impressed with them, and never had a problem with them. To compare the two is kind of like comparing a porsche to a corvette...;) Both very nice, but different in ways too...

That said, I think you would be happy with the trapperlock overall.

  • I just picked up my first trapperlock today. A Case sstag trapper lock 2009 edition.

  • the collection rocks bro im fixing to collect some slipjoint mainly trappers

  • you dont have the chesnut one?>

  • Sure do. Check at 2:15. It's in the center at the top. The chestnut is CV steel like the yellow handle.

  • are these ats-34 steel also

  • These are SS (Stainless Steel) Case calls it TRU-Sharp SS. Or, CV (Chrome Vanadium) the original CASE steel.

They do have knives made with ATS-34, but not in a Trapperlock yet, that I am aware of.

  • i heard that they come open easy in the pocket have you realized that? i know you carry yours in a sheath because i watch your other vid, but still have you recongized it. by the way great vids

  • It hasn't been a problem for me or anyone else that I have talked to. If you look really close at the blade area, and the liner lock, you will see a small dimple etched in each that helps it stay in the closed position. I don't think you'd have a problem with one in your pocket, other than it being a little big.

  • Wow thats got to be about $1,600 worth of trapperlock knives.

  • The yellow handle is the best one, best steel... also the cheapest I believe.

  • I picked up the old red pocket-worn one when it first came out. I love it. That second cut stag of yours looks great.

  • Thanks!

Those old reds are great looking, and make a nice carry.

  • Nice video. Ive been looking for a Red Stag Trapperlock online but i can't seem to find one. Were they discontinued? or have i just been looking in the wrong places?

  • Thanks!

I think the Red Stag was a low production run, 500 maybe.

They seemed to be getting scarce. I have seen a few on eBay, but none of the dealers I know of have any. If I come across any I'll email you...

  • Alright that would be great! Thank you!

  • nice ring :D

  • :) Thanks...my own design

  • hey there mr chopperguy i was gunna ask if you could do a video comparing the case full size trapper vs the size of the case trapperlock

  • I'll try to put one together soon...

  • cool. i love case knives.

  • Me too! I can't get enough...

  • Very nice video

  • Thanks!

  • It's nice to see a new YouTube video on Case knives. The Trapperlock is an interesting new design. I think of the Trapperlock as a "tacticalized" Case in that it offers one-handed opening. The Russlock is one-handed opening, but I'm not crazy about the how the lever sticks out on the Russlock (no offense to Russlock lovers). The Trapperlock is sleeker, imho. I wonder if Case plans to issue the Trapperlock in mother of pearl, my favorite Case handle material.

  • Thanks for the feedback. I'd have to agree with everything you said. I'll bet you see a Trapperlock in MOP or some other exotic material come out in the next catalog. They did do (I think 4) MOP trapperlocks to auction off at the Historians tour stop's last year. They were laser etched (Historians Tour) and went for big bucks. The one I saw was beautiful!

  • Watch for the review I'll be doing on the new just released Trapperlock...Vintage Stag, with black anthracite coated blade. Waiting for it to arrive...

  • WOW!! I love your collection. I recently started collecting Case knives. I only have four and they are all different patterns. I'm starting to really like the mini copperlock, russlock and trapperlock. Thanks for sharing.

  • @hmmm5000

Thanks! All of those patterns you mentioned are great. Russlocks have a big following and a LOT of different varieties to choose from. I chose to collect Trapperlocks because they were a new pattern that came out a year after I started collecting. CASE has a lot of followers, and collectors, and stand behind their products, and are excellent to deal with. Happy collecting!

  • Appreciate you sharing...Been looking for a Green with Red Shield, where'd you find yours?

  • @bigthankful1

I got the Bermuda Green with Red Shield on eBay about a year ago. I have only seen one on eBay since. They seem to have dried up quick. I seem to remember reading that 500 were made. I saw one for sale on the CCC Forum a month ago as well. Good Luck in your search, You'll find one sooner or later. Take care.

  • Sweet collection Jim! Thanks for the video

  • Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.

  • wow man thats the first case knife trapperlock review ive seen on youtube. you have a lot of beautiful knives. i want 2 get the golden rod pinched bolsters one. how well do you like it? same with the stag handle ones?

  • Thanks! The Golden Rod is even better in hand than in the photos. It has a real nice shield on it too, and is the only Trapperlock with the pinched bolsters which give it a neat look. Stag handle's are probably my favorites. Even better if you get some really Gnarly stag with handle's that match. They all have super smooth blade action and good solid locking.

  • the golden rod looks really nice. in this case mag i have they have some really nice regular trapper knifes that have the mother of pear case shield on them. they had other blade styles peanut, small texas toothpick ec. they had red bone, tangerine, that green that you have. if u buy 2 you get one free. the stags look nice 2. i didnt know they made a red stag trapperlock that one looks nice. i just like the stag and bone. they just remind me of something a person in the 1800s would carry.

  • Buy 2 get one free sounds like a good deal! Regular Trappers are a great knife with a ton of different handles available. They make a fine carry knife. You are right Stag does have a vintage look to it. And it will stand up to just about anything you throw at it too, whereas bone can chip and crack .

  • hey out of the chrome vanadium and their tru sharp surgical stainless steel. which one holds a sharper edge?

  • There is some debate on this, and a lot of people prefer one to the other. CV is easy to re-sharpen, while Tru Sharp SS will hold an edge longer (being a harder steel), but will require a little more effort to re-sharpen. CV will discolor or develop a "patina" either forced or with use, unless you keep a film of oil on it, while SS is resistant to rust. Some prefer CV to carry and SS for their collecting.

  • oh yeah it is a great deal. just go to casexx on the web and you can request a free case knife catalog. and they will send you one. thats what i did. i got mine like maybe 2 or 3 months ago. so they might have a diff one now. but you never know. and thats where the buy 2 get one free. and the shield that says case on those ones is mother of pearl. they also have mammoth ivory and mammoth tooth handle knifes. they are pricy tho. like 200 but the tooth and ivory is like 12,000 years old.

  • The Mammoth Ivory is pricey, but like you said, it's 12,000 years old. Males a very unique handle! Mother of Pearl is beautiful too. Thanks for the info. There are some great deals on knives out there right now.

  • for sure its pricy. in that mag they had some mother of pearl handle case knives. on set had blacked damascus blades. they are way nice. they had one texas toothpick that had black mother of pearl handle with the blacked damascus blade. well the handle in the pic looks more brown then black but its still nice. those ones are pricy as well

  • Great topic, Very nice Trapperlock knives.

  • Thanks, glad you liked it.
