How funny I just put their version on a cd I made for when I drive these country roads, and I love the original version...but I dig the calypso steel drums they did on this arrangement. Now I have to listen to Van Morrison's cover...
Yeah! After the first verse sung by Lance Hoppen on bass, there's an audience shot showing Sherman Kelly in blue shirt with lanyard around his neck. He's the author of the tune while in Boffalongo, which also had his brother Wells, who went on to form Orleans with the Hoppen brothers and John Hall. I played bass with Boffalongo in 1971.

You guys rock!! My brother in love who passed away two years ago in Central America loved this song. I remember listening to it the year I was to marry his sister [now my wife] twelve years ago. Everytime I listen to it I think of him and figure he is out there laughing and dancing...
I must be one of the few people whose reference version of this tune is The Boffalongo not the King Harvest. And I like the Boffalongo vastly more. This one I had not heard before. These guys do it really well. The tempo and the feel of it are much more in the spirit of the Boffalongo version. Well, hardly surprising it's so good with Larry Hoppen and his brothers in this band.
I am a bass player of *43 years* professional pedigree. I have done the radio, TV, studio, the concert touring on 3 continents, the hit records routine, blah blah blah ... but THIS is the band I would have given my left nut to play in. Bloody amazing. Lance Hoppen *does* that thang. Lance is a bass bubba.
Outstanding, just out-frickin' standing ! I felt the groove was a bit slow but I had no trouble slippin in. My first exposure to Orleans was with "Still the One" on the Midnight Special & Wolfman Jack. I bought the LP the next day & still pull it out about once a month. Orleans was similar to Climax Blues Band in that they were probably the 2 best opening acts a headliner could ask for. Orleans could guarantee the crowd to be either worn out or ready for more. Very tight band.
If you ever need something to make you feel good and get back to your teenage years in the early 70's, this is the formula to get the job done every time! You may have some miles on your odometer, but you can still go back and enjoy the trip once again!
I LIVE FOR THIS SONG
