No it`s not, he is describing an entire lifetime in a song. He describes birth, childhood.. "is this real life...fantasy" Then puberty how one rebels against ones parents and authority, then he goes into adulthood and the usual apologies "Momma didn`t mean to make you cry"...then having to support ones family and the hell of it, dog eat dog and all that and then old age "nothing really matters". It`s not sad at all, it`s reality.
