To change the speed of flight press f7 then click on fly then it will show you how the fly things that you can adjust. You can go really fast.

@MrBertilzzon there may have been a multiplayer plugin installed on the hosts server that doesnt give you permission to fly, test it on single player to find out

@Barricuder if you got a black screen, go to start, %appdata%, roaming, .minecraft, bin, then look for the minecraft.jar file and right click that and choose open with and open it with win rar, then delete your Meta-Inf folder. That's the normal fix for this.
