I remember this well. These guys lived in Las Vegas. Hurt em bad was a DJ & Soul Connection was the baddest band in Vegas,I used 2 see them preform all the time, and this came out after Dance Floor by Zapp.
I heard the Lyric version in a afterhours Players club in Edmonton Canada when I was 15 and it took me 25 years to get a download link to find it. send me a message and i'll forward the link.
nobody has put a yukalaly as funk guitar in their music,,thats what you hear,,,and the zapp part you hear is stolen,,but so are the words/idea grape vine,.lol
yall young catz got to really study music, and what spawned what.
parliament stole shit from church hymns/nursery rymes/and flipped it.
just like this song flipped zapps shit.
and the new generation cant do any music/ideas if it aint a flip,stolen/sampled.lol
You assume too much. Not young anymore but sure wish I was sometimes. Zapp were my favorite, and I couldn't get enough of Dance Floor; I played that song for years. I like to be very specific with dates, so I put all my YouTube collections in chronological order. I clearly remember a dj on KDAY or KGFJ announcing the first release of Dance Floor. It was very early summer of '82. I was just out of my first year of high school and that summer was a very exciting time for me.

Damn!!!! this jam has all the elements of a true funk jam, snappy drumming with the clap, synth bass riff, funky ass gutiar, right amount of synth keys and a mother funkin vocoder. Mguadan you're the teacher out here for real and it's firme that you're from the OC because this is a spot where there is alot of love for the funk, keep it up.
I've been looking for this song for years, but forgot who the artist was!Dayyum it brings back memories of being in high school. Honestly, was does Youtube NOT have? WOW!
I needed the instrumental!! The vocal is on youtube now too!
Do you know when this was released? Was it summer of '82? Dance Floor was released in early summer of '82, so I'm guessing this was released about a month or more later.
But way before Dance Floor, I remember listening to a rap compilation with all of Roger's songs in the background. Only heard it once from a car but never again, not even on radio. That must have been early to mid '82.
This sounds like the Korg VC-10 which can be made to sound like a talk-box, but still sound like a vocoder!!

This last time I heard this was on a boombox in the winter of 83-84 on Hollywood and Highland.
That's when people would come from all over LA to watch breakdancers and pop lockers do their thing on Friday and Saturday Night.
Some Ese was blasting this cut, breaking it in to the crowd. I remember the cut, but I never knew who it was. Thanks for posting.
