  • RandomMocker, how can you hate this piece? It's filled with unmitigated joy and happiness. I saw Parkening play it a few years back. I am not a fan of the extended hammer-on part, but other than that, I like Andrew York as a composer very much.

  • The guitar is a liiiiitle out of tune

  • Epic playing!Speechless!

  • maybe i use more then 20 yrs also can't achieve her standard. =(.

  • She seems to have gained in expressivity and matured technically, compared to her teens.

  • I think, the more I see her performance I fall in love to her...

  • Beautifull!:-)

  • good!

  • Wanderfulll! >.<

  • good girl, i like you

  • I'm a big fan of her, but I have to admit she used to PLAY much better when younger. I can see the misuse of her body, which causes her technical problem in this video. Alexander technique lesson or some knowledge about body use will help her a lot.

I like her MUSIC, not her technique, and the MUSIC in her mind must be as beautiful as it used to be. She needs good technique (I don't mean speed)so that we can enjoy the beautiful MUSIC in her mind.

Please, someone gives her good advice!

  • What an elegant, flawless, beautiful performance this is. Li Jie is a true artist. I am very impressed.

  • I think that the concert costume of a pink color system looks good in to young beautiful her.

As for her black concert costume an oppressive feeling does.

She who overflows future hope and, talent thinks that a flashier costume is good.

  • Abundantly talented. What else?

  • Also, she has glew up into a beautiful, talented young lady.

  • She plays this lot more expressive than the one she made at 14 year old text book style. Each of them is perfect in its own way and I enjoy both. Every note is clear, clean and articulate. She is a remarkable guitarist.

  • cool

    very good in play guitar

  • I pick out something different with every listening, remarkable.

  • I love Li Jie, i was wondering where was her all this time.

  • Long live the queen Li Jie!!! She is goddess!

  • Great technique... but I get the feeling something is "missing" from this piece... can't quite identify it. Anyone else get the same feeling?

  • You couldn't be more wrong. Before even reading your comments I was literally just thinking how much more lyrical this performance is compared to her older recording of it, and it gave me the impression that she has had plenty of experiences since the last recording where she was pretty young (about 15 or 16)

I don't normally like this piece much for some reason, but this performance really stood out and I really enjoyed it.

  • I saw the composer play it;

    so, what do you know?

    Not much.

  • I get the impression you're one of those people that tries too hard to stand out, you just die to be part of the minority so you can triumph over all odds when you are right in an argument. Problem is, from what I've seen of your arguments (particularly the metronome one) you're just plain wrong all the time.

I don't really care what you have to say on the matter, or any infact.

  • Also as you may have noticed, I mentioned I don't really like the piece, that includes the one by Andrew himself. No offense to him, he's a nice guy, I just don't normally like the piece - until I heard this interpretation.

  • Oh ....gee whiz...

    so you're just a...

    Random Mocker?

    Great...

    you don't care blah blah...

and yet you're strangely compelled to write me little letters.

  • could some one tell me how to purchase the sheet music to this piece? thank you

  • What a JOY to hear LI JIE...thank you very much for sharing this wonderful video...

    1000 stars........................

  • Wo hen ai ni, Li Jie! Let's get married!

  • She's fuckin good at guitar lol.

  • No fair, she plays live concerts in Beijing but not all over the world! Why hasn't anyone signed this girl up yet for an international record deal??? >:|

  • @roastporkbun

Maybe because its a country with a lot of censorship

  • This song is a masterpiece, York is a complete genius. Great job with the piece. Just started learning this.. I'm guessing four or five months I'll have it if I stay focused.

  • O.o

  • que bonita cancion

  • Li Jie,i love you,love you so much.wish i can meet you//

  • I think her technique and interpretions are excellent. Does she ever perform in the U.S.? Does she have a website?

  • Listening to Williams' recording of this (from The Ultimate Guitar Collection) and comparing it to this: Williams is technically superior, but colorless/emotionless. As is typical of his recordings, I sounds to me like a machine played it "perfectly" without any interpretation. Conversely, Li Jie's version has color; changes in tone and rubato that give it personality. I much prefer this version. And I don't notice the mistake... the ending Williams plays and this one seem identical?

  • It would be far easier if you listened to the original studio recording.

  • Compare this version with Andrew York's and you'll notice her execution of the coda was fine.

  • Hey, you're right! She made a mistake! Why don't you post a video of how it should really be done?

    Mr. RicardusVincerncius....you sad little fool.

  • i cant find anything wrong, just some sound lost but its no big deal, and i dont think you should judge because of her face, that face can mean anything, still this chinesse girls are very god NOT screwing up, personally i think li jie, wang yameng, su meng and the other one are too good for their age, they must have studied like 18 daily hours or something, still their performances are not as good as john williams' or david russell

  • Actually Li plays the ending correctly, according to the score I have, which is the GSP authorized edition. It is John Williams who cuts to the coda three measures late. Well, I don't think John Williams did that accidentally. I think it sounds better that way. The original version leaves the listener feeling as if it has ended abruptly, as evidenced by the number of posts suggesting that Li did exactly that. Well, who is 'Right'?

  • It might just be me but I prefer the video clip of the same number in which she wore a red skirt, black vest and white blouse. And she was younger. She still gets 5 pts.

  • It's not just you... the acoustics aren't being picked up very well in this video. That being said, her dynamic range has increased by a GREAT deal since the previously mentioned Video... it's quite amazing to witness!

  • I also seems to prefer the guitar used in the previous video. Still her playing still gets 5stars.

  • Is she an instructor at the conservatory now ?

  • yes. I met a student of hers on the Internet last week.

  • so if i were to, hypotheticaly, go to the conservatory i could meet her? or at least see a performance?

    kick ass.

  • I would cry to heaven with great joy if I could meet Li Jie.. ;_ ;
