well people say they werent. they have been very close and there aunt in the show never really showed them love. to me i always thought they have love fore each other in a strong brother and sister relationship. there family has been through so much and they always had each other to trust. i don't think it was ever more than that, they did marry each other in the books but it was political.

You gave great explanations about the kissing. But when I saw it I thought that indeed they were really close to each other but kissing does not necessarly means incest in the "world of Dune". This is not meant to be interpreted in an American or Catholic way...
And these two simple kisses added so much intensity to the scene... one of the best scene of the movie.
The novels are very clear that there is sexual tension between them, and also, as others have said, with Paul and Alia. I think Frank Herbert really liked to stir the shite with his thinking about appropriate relationships and sexuality. Honestly though, they are both very beautiful people. :)

With identical twins, something like 90% of them have sex together. And they also speak their own language, until they learn the native language of their land.

they alone understand each other, when others feared and misunderstood them. i infact can understand the kind of love they can build for each other and the nearness to romantic interest. unlike others that sex comes to mind when they think of leto and ghanima being romanticaly being involved. which is different with them. they understand each other, and have a love of the soul. if not brother and sister, leto and ghanima were meant for each other.
Its not that they look at each other creepy..but..they have the memories of their mother and father both..as well as all who came before them..so the are brother and sister...but on one level they are husband and wife...mother and daughter..father and son..and so on....it isnt suppose to be taken literally..like..oh dear god the incest....just a reflection of their "birth"

I think the way they played this was completely in character. They are more than brother and sister. They have a living knowledge of their ancestry as it resides in both of them with many different kinds of relationships to inform their own relationship. It's supposed to be unique and intense and loving and more and it is.
