He cut taxes and spent tons of borrowed money. Result? For a few years the economy 'appeared' to be doing well while he quadrupled our national debt. Bush presided over another recession. Clinton began cleaning up the mess. Enter Bush II and it was Reagan redux with an 11 trillion dollar federal debt to show for it.

No, stimulus and spending are not the same thing at all. Stimulus should involve very specific types of spending, sure, but that is not what we're getting. The Stim Bill is just a bunch of politically-motivated pork projects wrapped up together. This should be pretty obvious - if all the government had to do is spend to stimulate the economy, then we'd all just give 70% of our wages over in taxes so the government could "stimulate" all it wanted.

I'd heard an interesting point of having a payroll tax cut. A payroll tax cut wouldn't only return money to working people but would also return money to the employer. That way it's cheaper to employ a person and that person gets more money.

McCain isnt against a stimulus bill, he is against throwing money away on frivolous projects such as $225 mil for golf courses, $320 mil for marinas for yachts and $400 mil for more public high speed internet connections to name a few. These projects do nothing to improve our economic model moving forward. We should devote more money to infrastructure, to factories and business investment, to adult re-education programs and the like. Cenk, get your liberal head out of your ass!!

debt they spend that money, increasing circulation. The reason why keeping taxes so high doesnt work is for the same reason, people feel financially choked. We would ge tthe same amount of progress from this bill if it was trimmed down to 100 billion, but there are political moves all throughout this bill.

No, stimulus and spending are not the same thing at all. Stimulus should involve very specific types of spending, sure, but that is not what we're getting. The Stim Bill is just a bunch of politically-motivated pork projects wrapped up together. This should be pretty obvious - if all the government had to do is spend to stimulate the economy, then we'd all just give 70% of our wages over in taxes so the government could "stimulate" all it wanted.

You raise tax 1 dollar per hour, my employer gives me 1.5 to compensate, 1 to replace the one they are taking and 50 cents to pay the tax on it, in a company of 80 employees you just cost someone there job to cover that. Lower taxes a dollar and we can hire someone. It does make a diffrence. Also if the poeple who ran buisnesses believed at all that Obama's plan would work then things would already be getting better but in the last 3 months since Obama's been elected i've never seen it this bad.

Example, If I own a business and have $5k to spend and I can either buy a vacation to hawaii or buy a computer system, which one will stimulate my earning potential moving forward? Yes, it would be good if the money come from saving. The problem is that the whole american economy is base on credit card debt consumption. And now that the american are too broke and too much in debt to spend on anything, the economy is paralysed. You need an economy based on production and saving.

McCain isnt against a stimulus bill, he is against throwing money away on frivolous projects such as $225 mil for golf courses, $320 mil for marinas for yachts and $400 mil for more public high speed internet connections to name a few. These projects do nothing to improve our economic model moving forward. We should devote more money to infrastructure, to factories and business investment, to adult re-education programs and the like. Cenk, get your liberal head out of your ass!!
