Do you believe that ecosystems exist? If a forest only exists because it is a GROUP of trees; that is, if individual trees could not live on thier own, how could a forest not exist in the real world? If individual fish can only survive (exist) in a school, is a school of fish not in the real world?
@johnnywhack Trees can grow individually, lots of fish don't swim in schools, we are more individual in nature then socialistic.
There was a guy who was living almost entirely alone in the bush of Alaska and he lived there for like 20-30 years until he was 80 and decided it would be easier to live in society. Humans are very capable on our own.
And I completely concur, as I've been spouting for years now, we have been enslaved by Fascism - we aren't heading towards Socialism - I wish. lol
The US is Fascist by definition. A spade is a spade. Call it what it is.
I prefer the The Fountainhead - its a much easier read and conveys a lot of the Objectivist philosophy. HA! ...lol You just said the exact same thing. lol
Steph - we are Twins. You and I think almost identically - it is scary. lol
If you take a tree or several trees from a forest it remains a forest.
Whereas if you remove any major part of a Tree - it ceases to be a Tree. It becomes Lumber, leaves, branches or wood. But the 'Tree' no longer exists.
So Tree is the lowest common denominator of a forest or a Tree as a whole.
YES we have been to Venus and too Mars, and Jupiter and Saturn and beyond now. So yes we can see for ourselves.
Sorry, advanced technology isn't needed to prove science, I meant that Science is proven correct by technology whereas the argument for the Existence of God becomes increasingly weak.
I think the perfect argument for the non-existence of God was just stepped over at 17 minutes into your cast.
IF 'god' could exist in a different realm, but doesn't in this one - then God does not EXIST in this Realm. Period.
If he can pop in and say hello, then proof of some existence life must be proven to be able to just pop into existence and exit at will - otherwise - yes it is a fictional character in a book.
Even dark matter and black holes can be measured and proven. Odd God can't.
I remember distinctly receiving a holographic picture of chirst dying on the cross and my first kiddie bible at the age of 2.
I remember the image being so disturbing that I kept it turned faced down under my bed. I thought it was horrific and couldn't figure out why I had been given this picture by people that said they loved me.
From there on - God became the sadistic tool of my parents and sibling for years.
I eventually became so disgusted, I left religion altogether.
But isn't a tree a conceptual tag for every chemical reaction undergone to create what you see as a whole? Would you consider the forest/tree relationship different than the tree/atom relationship?
It could be different because a forest is literally bunches of trees gathered in a certain vicinity, while a tree has an observable chemical structure.
It can be frustrating attempting to distinguish between the "established definition" of a word and a person's actual intent upon using the word!
I'm sadden that your parent conveyed a very sadistic view of the crucifix. Personally my parents focus on the love by the person on the cross & to be filled with joy in his eternal sacrifice. I'm not looking to debate if this is logical or not but this is from life experience & family tradition being handed down.
My point is one can look at a gun for example & say "that is a good thing because its used for hunting" or "that is evil because its kills people" by past teachings during ones youth.
I'm not so sure if I agree with your depiction of when your parents showed you images of the crucifixtion when you were growing up, and how horrible it was they did that.
I'm a non practising Roman Catholic, but I think your parents weren't aiming to force your obedience or scare you into believing. Most Catholics I know are, although in my mind mistaken, trying to help people and do good.

Great show. But for the love of god, balance the audio! Callers: too loud... Call screener: way too loud. Use a compressor, if nothing else.

Trees & Forests are symbols of objects.
A great argument is:
If you take a tree or several trees from a forest it remains a forest.
Whereas if you remove any major part of a Tree - it ceases to be a Tree. It becomes Lumber, leaves, branches or wood. But the 'Tree' no longer exists.
So Tree is the lowest common denominator of a forest or a Tree as a whole.

God I want to be sitting there with you Steph! lol
I could back you up on myriad facts.
First Caller - both Neptune and Uranus were 'theorized' and proven to exist mathematically - before there was ANY proof whatsoever.
Hence - Scientifically we could predict, speculate and eventually confirm the existence of these bodies.
A lack of technology does not the creation of God create. Only an ignorance.
God shouldn't need advanced technology to prove his existence. Whereas all laws of Science do.

Yeah, where did she use the gifts of logic or reason. lol
Logic says - God doesn't exist and God says, 'oh, I see" and disappears in a poof of smoke. lol
