  • Eddie Van Halen dislikes this.

  • jimi hendrix didnt die god just wanted guitar lessons.

  • I had the Monterey record when it came out in 86, played it over and over and over.

  • i've seen this before a billion times, but good lord, at the intro with the band coming in, is that just him playing the rhythm and the lead shit, wow i never realized

  • A SINGLE MAN, TURNED INTO GOD STATUS THAT NIGHT

  • @niggaT42000 Hendrix is the god. ;)

  • All he needed was himself and a guitar.. thats a real musician

  • Clapton and Hendrix were mutual admirers of each other and when Jimi passed Eric went out and cried in his garden all day. He said he didn't cry because Jimi had died he cried because he was mad at Jimi for leaving him here alone and not taking him along with him. Right after his life spiraled into deep depression and addiction and he gave up music for a few years until he was rescued by Townsend among others.

  • The Fucking atmosphere in this shit, just thinking about going in a time machine to watch this shit and hearing the shit pierce my ears gives me goosebumps.

  • Imagine seeing Jimi play this with Cream on stage.? When they invent time machines I'm going. If I'm dead when they invent one come back to 2012 and pick me up if your still alive.

  • .............!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GOD I want to live on the 60's !!

  • What about Noel Redding...He and Mitch had to keep up with Jimi...No one can touch ANY of these guys...now that are all reunited and playing together again. We miss you 3..Music is not the same.

  • What sort of influence was Brian Jones under the year before when the Stones were brought by Linda Keith to the Village to watch Hendrix, possibly to sign him for Immediate, and weren't impressed? Maybe this was a way to present his excuses...

  • This man need an international holiday.

    The GREATEST OF ALL TIME!

  • @mickeyb1000 you sir are awesome! =)

  • SICK drummin, courtesy of Master Mitchell

  • Well,.. He told The who he was gonna pull out all the stops,..

  • I'd give my left nut for that makeshift lefty Strat which Jimi played. I know he killed it at the end.... what a shame ! I know he loved that instrument.

  • hendrix is GOD!!!!

  • 3 musicians + 4 years = Greatest Band of All Time!

  • the intro is so damn good. and yes, mitch was a beast. seriously under-rated for how good he was

  • Is that Brian Jones at the beginning?

  • We have a dislike here? I guess Clapton is still butthurt.

  • @8KresniK8 Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix were friends up until Jimi died. He wasn't "butthurt," he had nothing but respect for Jimi.

  • @8KresniK8 Thats just ignorance speaking man. Clapton was never butthurt. Just challenged & he took it in stride, as did all the other guitarists who new what they were up against when Jimi plugged in. Peace!

  • This is Hendrix performing one of his top five or six LIVE songs ever ("Killing Floor"). As great as the Monterey Pop Festival was (and in my opinion, it blew away Woodstock), Hendrix was the class act of Monterey. And that said, it is not meant to take anything away from other great performances at Monterey, like the Airplane, Janis, Country Joe and the Fish, etc. But Hendrix set the night on fire. Kick ass MF guitar playing, that hasn't been matched since! -CJW

  • @MrChrisJWIlmot Agreed.

  • this is much better than porn !!

  • Fuck Elvis, Jimi is the KING!

  • I know nobody cares but Mitch Mitchell was actually a beast drummer. It's not easy to stand out wile backing Jimi, but Mitch did the same thing Keith Moon did: they did those constantly changing, rolling patterns that were always off topic but also on beat and useful. I admire that, it's almost like the equivalent drum style to Jimi's guitar playin.

  • @hellofart16 Yeah ! All these great drummers definitely had jazzmen for teachers. Even though they didn't end up playing jazz, they sure knew how to swing. And that made ALL the difference. They had the support of a tradition and it shows. Just listen to Bonzo, Paice and even Bill Ward.

After the seventies a new, swing-less branch of plodding hard rock drumming emerged. Some of it is also great, but most of it lacks nuance. So here we are, missing Mitch and The Loon !

  • @hellofart16

Totally agree. Mitch was one of the best improvisational drummers in the world at he time. Only underrated because he played alongside Hendrix.

  • @hellofart16 Agreed man. Mitch was THE shit, his lead style of drumming is amazing. He was one of the top and most influential drummers to pioneer the jazz-rock fusion style in my book, which to this day these recordings still amaze me. The man was able to shred with finesse, he and Noel were the driving force behind Jimi's rad guitar playing.

  • @hellofart16

why do you think nobody cares?

  • @2pacinseattle Because he is backing Jimi Hendrix.

  • @hellofart16 Oh he stand out all right. anyone who knows music knows that Mitch is an animal on the drums.

  • @hellofart16 Mitch is the fucking man!!! And if kids cant recognize that then they are clearly STOOPID!

  • @hellofart16 actually. the best drummers are from the band ohm... jazz drummers are better then blues drummers. not saying mitch mitchell was bad or anything hes obviously good... but if wanna talk about best drummers check out kofi baker.

  • @hellofart16 Mitch Mitchell was actually one of the most IMPORTANT drummers in rock music. He was originally a jazz drummer who had his first rock experience with Jimi. With this he blended jazz and rock and was one of the inventors of jazz fushion. His drumming in this performance is award winning alone

  • @hellofart16 I agree HF.. it's not or wasn't easy to keep up with all JIMI's time changes and free flow playing and the rhythm section was up to the task. Band of Gypsies happens to be my favorite Jimi band but that doesn't take away from the greatness of The Experience.

  • @hellofart16 two of the greatest drummers there ever.

  • @hellofart16 A lot of people care. He's always on Top drummer lists. It wasn't easy backing Jimi and Jimi could be hard on him. True what you say.

  • @hellofart16 I know this is a Jimi Hendrix post but would Bill Ward of Black Sabbath be in your top drummer list? =)

  • @hellofart16 My views EXACTLY! Well said my friend.

  • @hellofart16 I absolutely get the comparisson of Mitch Mitchell to Keith Moon, although Mitchell was much more of a jazz drummer.

  • @hellofart16 We stick together on that. Mitch Mitchell was almost like no other. He played around the beat. He's on my list of top 5 drummers.

  • @hellofart16 I agree, Mitch Mitchell is probably one of the best drummers ever and if he had not played with the best musician and guitarist ever he would probably have been recognized for that alot more.

  • @hellofart16 It takes a beast of a drummer to back up a beast of a guitarist, and vice versa. Great match, those two.

  • @hellofart16 THIS IS THE BEST ROCK COMMENT I'VE EVER SEEN..U HAVE MY BIG RESPECT FOR TALKING ABOUT MITCH ;)

  • @hellofart16 Amen for that brother, people over the tima has not given enough credit to the experience, specially to Mitch Mitchell, I think he is on the same league that Keith Moon....

  • America was in for a SHOCK!!!

  • Chuck Norris needs to visit 1 guy

  • not sure if anyone is aware, but he was high on lsd during this..

  • @mega89vision Contrary to what the media wrote about Jimi Hendrix he rarely did drugs while performing he wanted to keep it professional and not mess up his performances.

  • @bobbyz23

but this performance in particular he was on lsd, they were purple acid tabs called "monterey purple".

  • @mega89vision No that was from a poem someone wrote about Monterey ,stating Jimi had taken Monterey Purple,it all fiction.

  • MITCH MITCHELL WAS AWESOMEE!!

  • Comment removed

  • that intro is righteous.

  • just...just gooD!

  • 0% of people dislike this. :)

  • This isn't one of his popular songs like purple haze, and all along the watch tower, but i love this song.

  • Jimi Hendrix is the BEST OF ALL TIME PERIOD IN THE HISTORY OF FOREVER

  • @johnny2x4x2 That would have to be Dylan. But Hendrix kicks plenty of ass too.

  • @MeatTycoonDevious to each is own like alot of people argue with me that srv is the best and then joe satriani and yngwie malmsteen so its just my opinion that jimi hendrix is the best although i gotta say i dont care for bob dylan particularly to much mostly cuz i havent listened to a whole lot of his music

  • @johnny2x4x2 Jimi admired him quite a lot, in particular his singing.

  • @MeatTycoonDevious yeah i know thats what led him to do the all along the watch tower and his hair style

  • @johnny2x4x2 I prefer Dylan's version of Watchtower, but Jimi sure did some kickass guitar solos on his. :-D

  • @johnny2x4x2 I'd suggest checking out Dylan's Bringing it all Back Home record. That's my personal favorite by him.

  • He put his guitar on fire at the end of this gig. A shame. I wanted to have it ;).

Love, Peace and A Legend. Jimi Hendrix. <3

  • My ma at the beginning look like Val Kilmer! :)

  • @StarWoors That's Rolling Stone Brian Jones.
