i've been producing on fl studio for about two years and decided to move up to this beauty , and i'm already getting the hang of it , thank you so much ! :)
So im in the process of installing Ableton live, Do i need to have your modules to create a drum beat like this? or is there a default Ableton drum creation process like this?
stupid question: how do i get a drum machine for ableton, so i can open it. i could figure it out by myself for fl studio, but in ableton i just get an empty interface without any syntheziers or drum machines. thanks.
I was just wondering what software you use to record screen, do you know of any software I can use to record ableton, the sounds coming out from ableton and some narration too?
@CalisCool no i think you fail to understand me, I want to record the screen, the video of what i do as i do it, also the audio of what i'm doing, then pick up system audio to, you cannot record audio and video in ableton surely, if so find me a link to some information please, thanks for the help
ableton and fl in rewire with a bit of renoise for arps and retrigs is the way ! i agree that ableton is very un-user-friendly. FL has bad stigma thats it crap just because its nice and easy to use. I heard some good producers that have made shit on FL, Spor made a bunch of earlier stuff on it. Its what you do with it that counts i guess
At Beatportal's website there is an interview from skrillex stating that he uses ableton, a macbook pro, krk's and some plugins. right about mid page google what he uses and you'll see the link, I cant post it here
@IAmThinkTank No I have used Ableton, it's not really user friendly, you can't argue that. If you need to know im using Logic Studio and Pro Tools HD, but it's not relevant is it? I have also tried out Fruity Loops and it isn't a bad program. Someone with a brain should know that you could make extremely good music with Fruity Loops if you know what you are doing. I stand by my earlier post, Ableton is overrated, a joke.
Actually I can argue that. I picked up ableton quickly. Everyone I know who uses ableton had the same experience. Just because ableton isn't (by your standards) user friendly (I found it to be incredibly intuitive), doesn't mean it's a joke. You just aren't good with it. Doesn't mean you suck in any way, it just that you and ableton have a relationship issue lol. To each their own, but you could phrase your comments to be a bit more neutral when dealing with subjectivities
Only one strange thing.. The piano roll, sometimes de notes are realy small and then they change to very wide... is this a hotkey or something? can't find it haha
is there any huge benefit to using Impulse over a simple drum rack? because i mean impulse only has 8 slots for samples, but if you just set up a custom drum rack you have more open pads than you'll ever need. I guess the main thing is that impulse gives you control over decay, pan, etc. but is there more to it than that?
My elder brother is a music promoter with several successful band launches under his belt over recent years.
For next Xmas he has the idea to release a ‘MURDERBAND’ charity single, featuring odd prison cell-recorded lines sung by Peter Sutcliffe, Ian Huntly, Peter Tobin, Levi Bellfield, Rose West & others. He reckons it will be popular as the public will like to see them “putting something back into society”- but I’m trying to persuade him it would be a horrible mistake…
Did you guys know you can get all the hardware to get started in one easy to use package with the windows 7 equipped StudioBLADE keyboard workstation. It has the PC, sound card, control surface, keyboard and monitor built right in along with all the software needed to run a full studio! Check the link below for videos.
if anyone wants to have a serious track.. don't use the impulse, use a drum rack.. you can sample the sounds there and play/stop them exactly where you want. you can add different effects to different sounds and more.
if you want a better sound, use a separate drum rack for separate sounds.
for example: put a kick in one rack, make it sound just like you want, then add another rack just for the clap, and another just for the hi-hats.
What's better for just making beats, Reason or Ableton? I heard ableton is good for making beats and playing them live while Reason is mainly just for making songs, but yeahh, can't decide :P

All of you guys who are bashing FL don't know shit about it. Every DAW has it's means of navigation, and not everyone is going to understand them fully when first used. If thats what you're looking for, then try Garage Band, it might hold your hand for you. & Bandwagons aren't always the best way to travel!
@TornTech i worked with Fl for 2 years and was so happy moving on to Ableton... its a great step to take.. Ableton is so fast to work with ... Good luck !
@MCDEVVOMAN that's something no one can answer but they're quick to jump on the band wagon of 'fl is a toy' without even spending at least a year working with the daw
@LemonBoiLehclox true that.. everyone thinks 'my music is shit because i use fl'?? wtf? if your music is shit you need to keep practicing a new software wont make your music better.. in fact i prefer fl to abletob because ableton doesnt come with any basic plugins or any sounds at all
@MCDEVVOMAN you prefer fl because ableton has no sounds or vsts with it?... lol, mate, you can get thousands of samples & vsts of the internet for free... & the fl presets a pritty shit tbh, but your right about software dont make much differnce its the user, you just get loads of shit people using fl pesets, samples & loops which gives FL a bad name
@yesitsvetz i was just thinking about that today.. fl is the cheapest ad thats why its per is 'shit tchno music' .. if i wanted to make shit techno music i could use any programm not just fl.. no i dont use the presets that fl comes with just some of the plugins that are very helpful.. but a beginner isnt going to be able to tell if the sounds are shit they'll just use whatever is there :)
@MCDEVVOMAN yeah true that, FL or reason is perfect for beginers, but i would not advise sticking with FL or reason once you know what your doing if your planing to take your music somewhere, cuz they are both missing handy feature & i find FL very buggy with midi,.but ableton & cubases are at my level now, i have out grown FL... & next when i have mastered ableton & cubase i will move onto pro tools & logic which are industry standard
@yesitsvetz i have ableton but dont use it because of the lack of tutorials on here.. this is one but you gotta pay if you want all of them.. whats fl missing?? ive been using it for about 6 months now :/
no performance live features, strong pattern based but weak linear based sequencer, poor sample editing, not very well scaled on high resolution, unstable with many well know vsts, not an iderstry tool, low sound quality (this can be seen when you re-wire it to other software like pro tools), basic interface that been made to perform on poor computers at the cost of functionality, the mixer is a joke... & thats all i cant think off atm prob is more
@yesitsvetz everything there as i was reading it i was saying 'thats true' to myself..haha.. although it does have live features and why is the mixer a joke? everything you said about the audio you've hit nail on the head.. it either crackles or laggs take your pick.. i spent 55 euro on a new soundcard for my comp because i coldnt take it.. hydra vst..hahaha it would overload and i coldnt use i preset in the entire plugin...
@MCDEVVOMAN mate, you might not of needed a new soundcard... if your getting that cracking go options, audio & turn the buffer length up, that will fix that problem
the mixer just dont have many features & is bland it only holds effects to the channels & channel volumes. are you sure FL has live features, cuz i just did a seach on it & nothing came up, as far as i can tell it doesnt have any... tho i might be wrong
@yesitsvetz oh i did but it still didnt fix the problem as well as i would have liked it to and i was about to toss the computor out the window if the lagg didnt go away but the soundcard i bought (xonar ds) fixed the problem perfectly :D
no i remember watching kev willow and he said no need to buy ableton live anmore because it turned it into live or something.. i duno.. yeah but why would yo want the mixer for anything elese : / im running out of characters :(
@yesitsvetz fresh comment :D i had bleton oen then i went to fl and it opened rewire and i havnt a clue what thats for but i know you can link them somehow... does that mean if im working on a track in fl and i want to swap it to ableton it will transfer my entire projec file over to ableton?? if so thats hndy as fck :)
and i havnt used ableton much as i explaine earlier but how do i open up the mixer in ableton and how does it work. like with fl you paint your song..what do you do for ableton?
@MCDEVVOMAN just the mixer got more to it in cubase & ableton makes mastering a bit easier, im not sure how it works yet, & ive litrally just started to use them, & getting to know the basics (so far liking cubase a bit more), but yh with re-wire you can use differnt parts of the software with each other, like use beat from reason & make melody with fl so guess its the same sorta thing with ableton... i hope so anyway
@MCDEVVOMAN i just do mastering with the mixer, a bit of pan on the beat & ballance the level of each channel & your set :) well it does the job for me anyway, but really i just use it for a mess around so im no pro
@LemonBoiLehclox LOLwell i woiuldn't call FL or garage band industry standard DAWs, infact i would only call logic & pro tools industry standard DAWs at the current time... but i cant use logic cuz i dont have a mac, & pro tools is to much for me, i just use these for a laugh & mess around, i would use FL cuz its nice & easy, but way to many bugs in it, ableton dont work on my computer for some reason so i just use cubase now cuz can use my all vsts stably & run a lot better then fl
@LemonBoiLehclox i never said im pro, i said i just use it to mess around, why would i learn to use a professional DAW for a bit of fun, would be an absurd thing to do, i dont even know why you started ranting at me about DAWs for, i was just saying i prefer cubase to someone cuz FL is unstable with many well known VSTs & other issues like the ones that i have stated in previous post & is very well know about FL, if you wanna think that FL is industry standad software then go ahead mate
Okay I know this is a horrible place to ask this but I'm gonna anyway. Anybody notice that sounds do not sound the same going from FL -> Ableton Live? Any particular reason for this?
@DJCosmicRift Ableton is just better in quality. I used FL studio for over 3 years and switched a few days ago to ableton. I really hear te difference in quality
@ThomasVbeats Hmm alright, I'm still hearing some quite significant oddities tho. I played an ARP Sequence in G6 and now I had to transfer it over to G4 for it to sound almost the same. Which really is quite weird.
@ThomasVbeats have to disagree, I thought the same too, that the sound is better until I bought high quality headsets and improved my eqing skills, now you can't even tell whether I used live or FL to make a song
@tcw00 im also thinking if ableton is easy? i want to learn how to use this but everytime i watch tutorials, i feel bored. lol! i mean, i can sense that they are really difficult to master i think
@tcw00 i've watch this last night and it made me feel drowsey and sleepy. but i tried..its also kind of similar to fruity loops (the one im studying now)
So when I hit the headphone button to hear the samples I dont hear anything. I loaded a few samples into Impulse and made a beat and still dont hear anything. Anyone have any ideas?
ableton has kinda fucked up logic/sense while producing... it's kinda hard 4 beginners...

@TornTech i worked with Fl for 2 years and was so happy moving on to Ableton... its a great step to take.. Ableton is so fast to work with ... Good luck !

@TornTech mee to..what does ableton have that fl doesnt?? im gttin it but why is it better?

@TornTech that's what i did too!

@TornTech what does ableton have that fl doesnt?
MCDEVVOMAN 1 year ago
@MCDEVVOMAN that's something no one can answer but they're quick to jump on the band wagon of 'fl is a toy' without even spending at least a year working with the daw
LemonBoiLehclox 1 year ago
@LemonBoiLehclox true that.. everyone thinks 'my music is shit because i use fl'?? wtf? if your music is shit you need to keep practicing a new software wont make your music better.. in fact i prefer fl to abletob because ableton doesnt come with any basic plugins or any sounds at all
MCDEVVOMAN 1 year ago
@MCDEVVOMAN you prefer fl because ableton has no sounds or vsts with it?... lol, mate, you can get thousands of samples & vsts of the internet for free... & the fl presets a pritty shit tbh, but your right about software dont make much differnce its the user, you just get loads of shit people using fl pesets, samples & loops which gives FL a bad name
yesitsvetz 1 year ago
@yesitsvetz i was just thinking about that today.. fl is the cheapest ad thats why its per is 'shit tchno music' .. if i wanted to make shit techno music i could use any programm not just fl.. no i dont use the presets that fl comes with just some of the plugins that are very helpful.. but a beginner isnt going to be able to tell if the sounds are shit they'll just use whatever is there :)
MCDEVVOMAN 1 year ago
@MCDEVVOMAN yeah true that, FL or reason is perfect for beginers, but i would not advise sticking with FL or reason once you know what your doing if your planing to take your music somewhere, cuz they are both missing handy feature & i find FL very buggy with midi,.but ableton & cubases are at my level now, i have out grown FL... & next when i have mastered ableton & cubase i will move onto pro tools & logic which are industry standard
but dont get me wrong, a few do make it big on FL
yesitsvetz 1 year ago
@yesitsvetz i have ableton but dont use it because of the lack of tutorials on here.. this is one but you gotta pay if you want all of them.. whats fl missing?? ive been using it for about 6 months now :/
MCDEVVOMAN 1 year ago
@MCDEVVOMAN well here is some of the fl con's
no performance live features, strong pattern based but weak linear based sequencer, poor sample editing, not very well scaled on high resolution, unstable with many well know vsts, not an iderstry tool, low sound quality (this can be seen when you re-wire it to other software like pro tools), basic interface that been made to perform on poor computers at the cost of functionality, the mixer is a joke... & thats all i cant think off atm prob is more
yesitsvetz 1 year ago
@yesitsvetz oo no sampler that can take samples from songs, poor volcal recording/editing, issues with midi in/out too :)
yesitsvetz 1 year ago
@yesitsvetz everything there as i was reading it i was saying 'thats true' to myself..haha.. although it does have live features and why is the mixer a joke? everything you said about the audio you've hit nail on the head.. it either crackles or laggs take your pick.. i spent 55 euro on a new soundcard for my comp because i coldnt take it.. hydra vst..hahaha it would overload and i coldnt use i preset in the entire plugin...
MCDEVVOMAN 1 year ago
@MCDEVVOMAN mate, you might not of needed a new soundcard... if your getting that cracking go options, audio & turn the buffer length up, that will fix that problem
the mixer just dont have many features & is bland it only holds effects to the channels & channel volumes. are you sure FL has live features, cuz i just did a seach on it & nothing came up, as far as i can tell it doesnt have any... tho i might be wrong
yesitsvetz 1 year ago
@yesitsvetz oh i did but it still didnt fix the problem as well as i would have liked it to and i was about to toss the computor out the window if the lagg didnt go away but the soundcard i bought (xonar ds) fixed the problem perfectly :D
no i remember watching kev willow and he said no need to buy ableton live anmore because it turned it into live or something.. i duno.. yeah but why would yo want the mixer for anything elese : / im running out of characters :(
MCDEVVOMAN 1 year ago
@yesitsvetz fresh comment :D i had bleton oen then i went to fl and it opened rewire and i havnt a clue what thats for but i know you can link them somehow... does that mean if im working on a track in fl and i want to swap it to ableton it will transfer my entire projec file over to ableton?? if so thats hndy as fck :)
and i havnt used ableton much as i explaine earlier but how do i open up the mixer in ableton and how does it work. like with fl you paint your song..what do you do for ableton?
MCDEVVOMAN 1 year ago
@MCDEVVOMAN just the mixer got more to it in cubase & ableton makes mastering a bit easier, im not sure how it works yet, & ive litrally just started to use them, & getting to know the basics (so far liking cubase a bit more), but yh with re-wire you can use differnt parts of the software with each other, like use beat from reason & make melody with fl so guess its the same sorta thing with ableton... i hope so anyway
yesitsvetz 1 year ago
@yesitsvetz kul kul.. what mastering plugin do you use?
MCDEVVOMAN 1 year ago
@MCDEVVOMAN i just do mastering with the mixer, a bit of pan on the beat & ballance the level of each channel & your set :) well it does the job for me anyway, but really i just use it for a mess around so im no pro

LemonBoiLehclox 1 year ago

DJCosmicRift 1 year ago
@DJCosmicRift Ableton is just better in quality. I used FL studio for over 3 years and switched a few days ago to ableton. I really hear te difference in quality
ThomasVbeats 1 year ago
@ThomasVbeats Hmm alright, I'm still hearing some quite significant oddities tho. I played an ARP Sequence in G6 and now I had to transfer it over to G4 for it to sound almost the same. Which really is quite weird.
DJCosmicRift 1 year ago
@ThomasVbeats have to disagree, I thought the same too, that the sound is better until I bought high quality headsets and improved my eqing skills, now you can't even tell whether I used live or FL to make a song
LemonBoiLehclox 1 year ago
@LemonBoiLehclox yee but i suck at eqing

tcw00 1 year ago
@tcw00 im also thinking if ableton is easy? i want to learn how to use this but everytime i watch tutorials, i feel bored. lol! i mean, i can sense that they are really difficult to master i think
