For those who don't know..Wanda Robinson got screwed over royally by the music industry. She's still writing and performing poetry..she changed her name in the late 70's to Laini Mataka. She has several books out published under third world press and black classics press; Being A Strong Black Woman Can Get u Killed, Perserving The Queen, and a few others..she's in the DC area..still killing it!!
@Weston30 Whoah - thank you for this information. I'll definitely be following up the leads you suggest. I bought a Wanda reissue CD some years ago now - I hope to hell she is getting some monies from those sales.
where did you find all these gems??? i love message music you have done a great thing by sharing all of this music history of an era many have forgotten about a time of a musical renasance
She currently goes by the name of Laini Mataka. She is a quiet and very private woman. I found her and begged her audience a few years back and she is a fierce wordsmith. There is another album she did "Black Ivory" is classic indeed.
In my opinion, she is up there with Sonia Sanchez, June Jordan, maybe even Nikki Giovanni.
You took me back with this LP classic!

It's all about getting the black man to hate himself.
Cultivating a culture based on illusive and unrealistic dreams
what a man sees in himself that he does not like- he tries to destroy in others
they promote division by doling out little crumbs from that giant cake
So that people will blame each other on the street level; when actually the man on the street is going through the same things we are
It doesn't matter what color- We are all the same
They don't want us to talk to each other
