hi im thinking of buying one when i come to america on holiday but im not sure about the weight of the cricut cake cutter in my suit case is it really heavey? btw your cakes looked lovely hope ur daugter had a good birthday many thanks uk jake xx
We just received our Cricut. I guess we have a lot of reading to do. We thought we could use fondant, but looks like you have to add gum paste or use only gum paste. With the fondant, we fed the sheet in and 5 times in a row, the cutter cut jagged edges and the letters were unrecognizable. I have to assume now I have to use gum paste.
Hey Robyn, cute cakes you did a great job! Cake decorating is my favorite hobby and I love using fondant. Just a few suggestions to help you in your endeavor is if your homemade fondant starts to get too sticky knead a little bit of powdered sugar into it (not much or it will dry it out), if it gets to dry and starts to crack add a tiny bit of shortening. When you place it on the cake make sure your icing is smooth. Globs of frosting will actually make your fondant look bumpy. Enjoy! :0)
I'm curious about the machine that you used for making your MMF. What is it? By the way, I have learned a lot from you!!! I want to thank you!!! I'm also a newvy :0 !!!!
I think for you first time out...you did a good job with the fondant...remember to smooth out our icing underneath more..wrinkles will show thru to your fondant layer. I use a pizza cutter to cut my fondant (each layer separately) and add one on top of the other...or when doing two layers...I blanket it over both and work from top down...lots of videos on it on youtube. I got my new Cricut today today in the mail. Excited about it doing my lettering, mostly and lace work!! Good job!.
when you are coloring gum paste fondant icing or anything like that you don't need that much color a little bit goes a long way especially when using Wilton's icing color because the pigment is realy concentrated also do not let the frosted cake st it will crust and loose all its adhesive which is the only resin you put frosting on the cake before the fondant but if you really want to wait and let the cake rest just spray it with water
when shes kneading the gum paste her hands look like an Asian kid solving a rubix cube and BTW when you are coloring gum paste fondant icing or anything like that you don't need that much color a little bit goes a long way especially when using Wilton's icing color because the pigment is realy concentrated
Very good -- I am also a hobby cake decorator. The best tool I've ever had is a Wilton Cake Leveler...I bought it at walmart for $4 -- it makes the cakes PERFECT every time. I nevr could get cakes completely level with a knife...just a suggestion!!
heyy..robyn im andrea and i just wanted to tell you were could i get a pink criket machine like the one you have..and the French Manor i love your work..????
Hi Robyn..I have the cricut while ago and i still hav problems with the cutting part, when the machine cuts backwards it bring sum off of the gum paste with it causing it crumbles and wastes..I'm so frustrating with this issue specially because i've tried all types of needle pressures and all types of sheets, gum paste, fondant etc..i don't want to believe that it is the machine..any suggestions?? Thanks in advanced ; )
I have this machine and I used my own fondant. It cuts the design into the mat. Do I have to use their gum past sheets or is it normal that the design cuts into the mat as well?
Do you think you could do a video of a basic and advanced operations of the Cricut Cake. I watched your ones on the expression, but I have literally never touched a cricut before and can't get all the buttons and shift and plain base and base and etc.......thanks!!!
great job! i can't make myself buy the cake machine yet, mainly because i hate the taste of fondant and working with it... BUT that looked pretty easy! i might have to try making my own fondant and see if it tastes better than the packaged stuff... in all your 'free time' ;P, you should try taking the wilton cake decorating classes at "your local craft store", they have some great tips on how to do everything cake! i loved the classes and I make cakes on the side now :) they are great fun!
what kind of recipe was it for the fondant? I've used an awesome one that is marshmallows, powdered sugar and a tiny bit of water. It's so yummy and easy!
Next it will be Cakes by Rybon! LOL The kitchen isn't my favorite place. I know you make my cakes and I will do your laundry. I don't mind laundry. OK there are only two of us and we are old so I don't have much to do. I am sure if I had your families to do I wouldn't like it either.
You did a wonderful job on your cakes. I love the peace sign.
awesome!!! what cake recipe did you use? I can never find a good WHITE cake recipe.. I don't like to make cakes out of a box... If you can.. give me a link to that cake recipe or email through here! THANKS
This looks like you guys had so much fun! You did a great job! I am so impressed you made your own fondant! Woo hoo!!! That's big time! XOXO, Julie. :0)
I tried to "like" this and it was disabled.........LIKE....lol Enjoy your Cricut Cake! It looked like you girls had a lot of fun doing this video. I want a piece of cake!!!! Hugs, Mary
Your supose to put water on the bottom of the fondant so it will stick to other fondant better.

I'm sorry, I don't want to sound rude but you say "fondant" wrong :( it's French and pronounced something like "fon-daw"

It sounds like your pressure is too high. It should not cut that much into the mat. Mine does a little but not much.
