Pregnancy isn't a disease, it's a normal function of the body called reproduction. As for adopting children not to worry, we have HUNDREDS waiting on lists to adopt kids. The only thing that should be terminated is the rights of parents whose kids go to foster care so they can be adopted by waiting heterosexual couples.

but i think the calculations are wrong. there may not BE that much of increase in the population. it needs to be taken into account for how many old people die, how many people of any age die of natural, accidental, or other causes. and then you have to take into account the amount of babies that are miscarried and also the amount of young babies who die from SIDS, or other medical complications. So in all reality the population increase would not be as much as stated above.
That was quite an argument. When does human life begin? I didn't see that addressed. Does traveling down the birth canal turn someone into a human being? When the sperm of a man penetrates the egg of a woman doesn't it stand to reason that this is when human life begins? Two things that need to be addressed. Are the unborn human? If they are human when do they become persons?
I'd argue that human life begins when the fetus could possibly survive outside the womb. This, coincidentally, is around the same time that the brain finishes developing (more or less), sensory perception is achieved, and they are able to feel pain... approx. 22 weeks.
That's basically how the Roe V Wade decision was formulated, but I'd rather we went for something unique to humanity, and something measurable- and if the measurable human quality was tested for, and found to exist, then the fetus is allowed "personhood." I submit that the quality we test for is akin to a fully adult brainwave pattern. It starts when the brain is mature enough to think like a full adult. Before that, it's like an animal and gets no state protection.
Rather than running a fetal EEG on every person who undergoes an abortion... why not just go with what science has already found, draw a line in the sand based on that (eg. somewhere between 18-24 weeks), and not allow elective abortions after that time? I get what you're getting at, but human brains are arguably not 'adult' until they're 22 years old. Laws based on EEG readouts aren't going to be as clear to enforce as ones based on actual periods of time.
I understand, but in order for this to work, I think it needs to be measurable. I think we ought to protect what is truely human- the brainwaves do show this. It's not about being "adult" as opposed to "childish." Its about a fetal brain being able to feel pain, create memories, and function as you and I do. To be human is to be worth protecting, and we need to establish guidlines for what is, and what is not. We wouldnt test every case, just every close case.
I don't see how this would differ to just picking a time based on research with EEG's... say (for example), of 100 fetus', none are found to have any readings before 22 weeks... but at 23 some do. Then make it 22 weeks. EEG readings aren't an all or nothing thing, and they don't suddenly start at a particular moment. How would you define 'adult' from 'non-adult', when you're looking at a wavy line on a page? You'd still have to define a term to decide what is and isn't.
Either way, I think there needs to be a measurable standard based on a unique human quality. And thats the beauty of this argument, it's already well known what a fully functioning brainwave looks like- and it's exact. Forget the terms "adult" or "childish." ANY fully formed brain gives off this signal. So when a fetus shows this signal, I believe we should call it human, rather than imposing an age restriction because some fetus might develop faster than the cutoff.

I'm pro-choice, but this is kind of a wrong argument. You gotta look at the scientific facts. I support abortion under the 2 month period where the embryo isn't conscious and isn't practically living. It's not murder if it's not living.
I also support euthanasia, people who want to end their lives short should have their choice to, but gotta add an age limit so parents don't get calls from their doctors saying that their child wants to be put down.
It's not an argument for abortion, as much as it's a 'what if' it was stopped tomorrow (which is impossible). The numbers that the argument are based on are generally wrong... I deliberately sourced them from pro-life websites, to highlight how flexible with the truth they tend to be.
I'm also against voluntary late-term abortion, though given most disorders can't be detected until later in the pregnancy, I think there should still be an allowance made for medical reasons.

I pray your baby has a long and healthy life and I hope they never know that their parents would have had them killed if they were not 100% healthy before birth.
My wife is a nurse, working in pediatric oncology. She works daily with children who's parents didn't get scans done, or chose not to abort. These children live extremely short lives, and are in agony the entire time. Letting them live is the crueler option. You'll be hard-pressed to find someone working in this field, who doesn't agree with pre-natal scans or medical abortions.

Maternity =/= pediatric oncology. Unless the US system is drastically different to Australia's... once the child is born, if there's something seriously wrong it's send directly to the pediatric emergency ward... not a maternity nurse's problem. They deal only with healthy babies.
Why not spend some time in the ward where the terminally ill infants end up... then tell me that letting them live is the humane option.

There's a vast difference between a newborn and a ~20 week old fetus. Given >80% of abortions occur before 10 weeks, the differences there are even greater.
Child abuse is wrong because a child is aware of its own existence, and can suffer. A fetus (before 22-24 weeks) cannot. If you see things differently, then apply those beliefs to how you live... not to how others live.

but i think the calculations are wrong. there may not BE that much of increase in the population. it needs to be taken into account for how many old people die, how many people of any age die of natural, accidental, or other causes. and then you have to take into account the amount of babies that are miscarried and also the amount of young babies who die from SIDS, or other medical complications. So in all reality the population increase would not be as much as stated above.

That was quite an argument. When does human life begin? I didn't see that addressed. Does traveling down the birth canal turn someone into a human being? I'd argue that human life begins when the fetus could possibly survive outside the womb. This, coincidentally, is around the same time that the brain finishes developing (more or less), sensory perception is achieved, and they are able to feel pain... approx. 22 weeks.

That's basically how the Roe V Wade decision was formulated, but I'd rather we went for something unique to humanity, and something measurable- and if the measurable human quality was tested for, and found to exist, then the fetus is allowed "personhood." I submit that the quality we test for is akin to a fully adult brainwave pattern. It starts when the brain is mature enough to think like a full adult. Before that, it's like an animal and gets no state protection.

Rather than running a fetal EEG on every person who undergoes an abortion... why not just go with what science has already found, draw a line in the sand based on that (eg. somewhere between 18-24 weeks), and not allow elective abortions after that time? I get what you're getting at, but human brains are arguably not 'adult' until they're 22 years old. Laws based on EEG readouts aren't going to be as clear to enforce as ones based on actual periods of time.

I understand, but in order for this to work, I think it needs to be measurable. I think we ought to protect what is truely human- the brainwaves do show this. It's not about being "adult" as opposed to "childish." Its about a fetal brain being able to feel pain, create memories, and function as you and I do. To be human is to be worth protecting, and we need to establish guidlines for what is, and what is not. We wouldnt test every case, just every close case.

I don't see how this would differ to just picking a time based on research with EEG's... say (for example), of 100 fetus', none are found to have any readings before 22 weeks... but at 23 some do. Then make it 22 weeks. EEG readings aren't an all or nothing thing, and they don't suddenly start at a particular moment. How would you define 'adult' from 'non-adult', when you're looking at a wavy line on a page? You'd still have to define a term to decide what is and isn't.

And thats the beauty of this argument, it's already well known what a fully functioning brainwave looks like- and it's exact. Forget the terms "adult" or "childish." ANY fully formed brain gives off this signal. Just because someone does not see the world as you do, does not make them a 'cold hearted' person.
The 'little dismembered limbs, etc' aren't attached to a human that is cognitively aware or capable of sensing pain. They're attached to a fetus, that is developing to become a human... but is not a human yet. Anthropomorphising a fetus does not actually make a fetus human, and it does not make you a better person.

My wife is a nurse, working in pediatric oncology. She works daily with children who's parents didn't get scans done, or chose not to abort. These children live extremely short lives, and are in agony the entire time. Letting them live is the crueler option. You'll be hard-pressed to find someone working in this field, who doesn't agree with pre-natal scans or medical abortions.
Someone who has never experienced this first hand, like yourself, really wouldn't understand.

Maternity =/= pediatric oncology. Unless the US system is drastically different to Australia's... once the child is born, if there's something seriously wrong it's send directly to the pediatric emergency ward... not a maternity nurse's problem. They deal only with healthy babies.
Why not spend some time in the ward where the terminally ill infants end up... then tell me that letting them live is the humane option.

There's a vast difference between a newborn and a ~20 week old fetus. Given >80% of abortions occur before 10 weeks, the differences there are even greater.
Child abuse is wrong because a child is aware of its own existence, and can suffer. A fetus (before 22-24 weeks) cannot. If you see things differently, then apply those beliefs to how you live... not to how others live.

I don't know how things are in America but here most abortions are for young girls who couldn't keep their legs closed. If abortion was not an option they'd be a bit more careful.

(I can't say it's definitely wrong) As far as I'm aware nothing gives me any moral superiority over you. But in Scotland where I live Contaception is widely available and we are now educated from quite a young age but teenage pregnancys are still an issue. Ireland is very similar and I'd assume America isn't too far off the same mark.

Even if it was impossible to get an abortion in "developed" countries. Once the baby was born it would join the thousands of babies paid for by taxpayers. Now I don't think a baby/child should have to suffer for a parents mistake but the option to ork work is too easy. And it devalues those who do work

You raise a very interesting (and relevant) point... there's a lot more at play with the abortion issue than just abortion. There's also issues of morals, social impact, and freedom of choice that need to be considered.
BTW - I'm not american, I'm Australian. I used US stats here just because they're easier to find

Also the arch of the covenant, the holy grail, Babylon "which is now Iraq" , Rome "which is now Italy". There is evidence, you just gotta do your studying on that. Oh and Petra, which means the heart of God. I'm glad you could do breastmilk for this long. I did it, but being a preemie she just didn't have the strength to get a lot from me, so I could only do it for about 4 months. What little bit I could give her worked though, because she got healthy fast.

@sapperbloggs Sperm is not a human. The life of a human begins at conception, when the sperm meets the egg.

So a blastocyst (recently fertilized egg) is actually a human? Genetically, the difference between a blastocyst and a sperm is minimal. Structurally, a blastocyst is more comparable to a cancer (rapidly dividing cells) than a human.
So please, enlighten me. What is the feature of a blastocyst that makes it definitively 'human'?
Assertion without reason or evidence is completely pointless. If you can't back your argument with either, save yourself the effort and say nothing
