Why did you ask him about the launch pad? It was pre-made/ factory manufactured. Also, he gave the same silly reason for the metal plate and the rod. the rod guides the rockets launch. the plate protects the ground, and I suppose it might give the rocket something sturdier to propel against than the air.

what do you mean "go from..." are you refering to electron current or conventional current. The USUAL case for most lightning strikes is they originate from the negative cloud base. rarely, they originate from the positive cloud top. in a regular negative strike (the most common), electrons move downward from the (relativley negative with respect to the earth) cloud base, but 'conventional' current actually flows upward from the (relativley positive) ground

actually your wrong. copper wire would provide an easier path for light just a little bit if its not grounded, so lightning would attract to the copper wire as a path with less resistance then just go straight past it on a path with more resistance.
