Why did Bruce Willis do Die Hard 4? Because his career went into the shitter and he needed a big hit to keep himself going again for a few more years. I like Bruce Willis as an actor, but he picks some incredibly shitty movies to take part in. Its why he is doing Die Hard 5 cause he did a few more bombs after #4. Same reason why Arnold did T3 and now T5 and Stallone with a Rambo movie and Ford with Indy 4.

I think the movie is very entertaining, but I don't think it's like the other Die Hard movies, it ain't got the same atmosphere and spirit. Die Hard belongs to the 80s and 90s, and this fourth movie could have been another story, kinda like Hostage or 16 Blocks.

As for Bruce, you're right. I have no special insight into the workings of his mind. It's possible he just has very bad taste. However, I have spoken with people who themselves worked on the original McTiernan Die Hard films. The attitude amongst them is that Die Hard 4 was a cynical cash grab and that Bruce, their friend and colleague, did it only for the money.

No, you are just thinking about different types of movie's. No one watches Die Hard for the intensely serious dialogue. They watch it for the witty one liners and stylistic action. This Die hard was as violent and intense as the other die hards. The only thing that it lacked, which kept it from an R-rating was, FUCK. Go back and watch the other Die movie's. By todays standards they are tame and the only thing that justifies their R-ratings is the cursing.
