@Cobietotallyrox You teach them how to rate. 1 way I did it with my gelding is I would trot, lope and gallop up to the barrel then stop make him back and ask him to trot or lope around it.

to fancygirl333 and kansasbarrelracer, thats for the comments. since this rodeo, my horse has come into himself quite a bit and is now running 1D times in indoor rodeos, which were never his strong point.

if I could give you any advice, I think it would just be put the time in. it may sound dumb, but if you put in the hours on your horse at home, people can tell. then when your at rodeos the really good lifers will see your efforts and you can get really good hints from the ones who know what they are talking about. but ignore the negative comments from other people putting you down.

15.164. that is a 2D time in that arena, its a 14 second pattern. But my horse is an outdoor horse. In my last year of rodeo he has been running 1D times indoors, so i am pretty proud of his improvements :)
