Did you know that this was one of Mozart's favourite pieces. As a child, he heard it a concert and wanted the sheet music, but the officials denied it. So he ran home and wrote the whole piece from memory, note perfect. :)
when this song comes out right after a heavy war with your neighbor you feel the king of the world but also a small weak man looking at all the unexplored land on the map and fearing powerful nations at the other side of the ocean :S
This must be one of the few videos where people have brought up their religion in the comments without anyone talking trash afterwards. CIV-players FTW
Oh no, don't worry, any talk of religion for this video was pertaining to what religion found within the game. Some people just tend to pick one religion when ever they can.
Such as me: I pick Taoism! Why?... I have no damn clue.
I only do that if I get a leader that doesn't start as 'spiritual'. The money you can get from founding a religion is just too much of an advantage to pass up in my eyes.
Legend has it that this piece of music was played in the Vatican, composed by a priest/monk and the scoring of the music was forbidden . At age 16 Amadeus W Mozart head it there during his trip to Italy and from ear recorded the master piece revealing also his own amazing talent . Imho, such music should be world spread just as the good faith ! =)
The medieval era music in civ 4 inspires me to convert to Christianity and fanatically spread it. With such music, I just can't tolerate other religion than Christianity.
no words needed .. its only great! good that of this stupid world full of rap and other fast forgetable songs some ppl exist who knows what the time will overlife ... music like this remarks our civilization .. this is history (and sure some others) ;)
this takes me back to Civ 3. I invested my childhood on that and now, because of that, I went to the Middle School State Geography Bee and missed the Top 10 by 1 question. I thank Civilization 3, the best game in the world.
lol, how have I never heard of this guy???? I thought it was palestrina. Who is performing it? I want to say the Tallis Scholars but I highly doubt that Tessa Bonner is the soprano here.
@jazzpsalti as far as I know this is a boys choir, it may be the Kings College Chapel Choir...they have a video of them on YouTube... that version is almost identical to the Civ version.
@jazzpsalti This doesn't sound like The Sixteen to me. They usually record in bigger, more reverberant rooms than this, stand farther from the mics and take a slower, more laid back approach. But I could be wrong, and I don't know who *did* record this version.
@jazzpsalti Sorry, I thought maybe you meant you looked up that the Sixteen have a recording of this piece, but I didn't know if you had checked about this recording in particular. Weird. They don't sound like this anymore. They have a newer recording of this piece which is much better (just search YouTube for "miserere sixteen").
@bicsmokescrack That's probably the point. Makes it so that you mess up somewhere and the computer can take advantage of every turn you don't think about. =p
@bicsmokescrack: Haha, I know what you mean. When this track starts, I always stop and listen until it's finished at least once. I also stay around at the main screen to listen to the main theme. :D
I like to lisen civ music while driving, it keeps padestrians safe :D

The Civilization IV soundtrack is without a doubt the best soundtrack to any game I've ever played.
AlexanderRozhenko 6 months ago 4
@AlexanderRozhenko
Mostly due to the fact that it uses songs from world-renowned composers throughout history.
If anything I'd have to give the 'best soundtrack' award to Okami, at least if going by original pieces.
Grahckheuhl 6 months ago
@Grahckheuhl That was kind of my point about why its best soundtrack.
