@newdivinewind, yeah that's true but here are also much hybride's like the prius, the auris,... but also the bmw 7hybride or the x6hybride and we have many volkswagens with 'bluemotion'..., and diesel isn't anymore so popular as in 2000..(;

The expected 50 MPG is pretty darn good (well done Toyota) but with gas at €1.52 a litre ($7.30 USD a gallon) and climbing, now's the time to offer an all-electric model too.

@bored1980 Don't get US prices by taking European prices and making it go through the exchange rate. In the US our prices are almost always under 4 USD where I live.

I doubt that Toyota would be able to release the gas-efficiency system for an American model though because of the gas industries legislation that passed in the early 90's that prohibits cars from having over 50 mpg or more.

@titaniumdioxides I don't think he knows what he's talking about. The Leaf gets over 100mpgE. There is no legislation that mandates that cars can't get over 50 mpg.
