The Leyland Lynx buses in Bristol were scrapped too, apparently. I think it probably happened in 2006 but I was only young then. They kept the Dennis Darts that were new to Badgerline in Bristol.
Sadly Arriva North East did the same. They scrapped or sold on all their Lynx's. Or they got rid of all the ones in service. They kept the crappy Daf's which are well... crap. I loved these buses. I think arriva NE got rid of their Lynx's between 2005- 2007. I'm not quite sure when they got rif of them. It was a long time ago now. I was only uoung then. I never saw one broken down, not like these Daf's and Dennis Dart's from the early 90's in which many are in desperate need of new Gearbox's :)
I used to drive these up in the highlands and spent most of the time travelling at 50+ between stops they used to coast for ages when you took your foot off the throttle think they've all been scrapped now though as they were falling apart sadly.
I'd got a price agreed for preservation but the person I had it agreed for pulled out. Last I heard it'd been sent to the scrappers; can find out on monday though.
They're a reliable bus mechanically... well they are when they're properly maintained and not bodged up like most places tend to do to cut costs and save time. The body admitadly was shit, corrosion a big problem and rattles, well, there's another debate as to why and wherefore.
The shuddering sound when these reverse is down to the brake lining. Leyland Olympians were the same.
They weren't taken out of service for this reason. They were getting on a bit and sourcing new parts for them was hard. The training one was taken out of use because it wouldn't comply with new rules stating training buses must be equipped with ABS brakes. The Lynx doesn't have ABS.
This bus had problems building the air up and still does due to a problem with one of the auxiliary air tanks. Buses don't run on petrol so won't stink of the stuff and it won't damage the engine, as someone said earlier, they're built to last and with buses being used daily, they'll get this treatment every morning.
are you talking about the Dennis Darts with the new engine. Hate the new engine, it has no character. They should stick with the good sounding Cummins. Dennis Darts are my fave type of bus n i hate seeing them without their proper sounding engine.
I've enough with one for now; i'm concentrating my efforts on C920 FMP. H344 UWX would be a good one because it'd been rebuilt by Arriva in 2005 and was also refurbished when Arriva took over in the late 90's.
I've a few vehicles to keep my eye on for the future; I wouldn't mind a Volvo B10B but they'd be too darn expensive.

Cool to see a bus without the seats like that.
I never knew there were training busses like that.

The training buses that Arriva Yorkshire have all have had most of their seats removed.

reversing tone yes is rubbish but first thing on a morning it is loud
when it reverses the brakes make a funny noise like grinding one of the drivers said it is not supposed to go backwards more than nesessery
probably why taken out of service with all th e new built reverse out bus stations

better than the ones on our Alexander Dennis Darts, you can barely hear them. No wonder we reversed into someone behind us on one once!

They still have Cummins engines... just that the new types sound different to the older ones.
Lynxboy252 2 years ago
ooooh me never knew that, but yeah i prefer the old one because it is louder.
