  • i agree @ahalfeatengod

  • you sound like a sheep

  • Dia dhuit a chara! Físeán iontach

  • I heard that the Spanish armada stopped in Ireland and mixed with the people, is that why you're so dark? Sorry if this offends you, I'm a redhead Sicilian, so I have an idea about getting this question a lot

  • It could have happened anywhere with any Christian group and any pagan language and I still would have found it just as funny.

  • @shaunaSKITTLES I apologize if I gave that impression. What I meant is that because it's part of your own history you may not be able to see where I'm coming from. Throughout history Christianity as a whole has done everything possiblebto wipe out anything remotely pagan so to see two groups of them pitted against each other over a pagan language was incredibly ironic to me.

  • Shite!

  • For all you thick fukers out there Irish is a course subject in Irish, i hate it, but sure what you gonna do :L Contae LochGarman(:

  • hold down 5

  • It's not really over where the language came from, but the reason where there are Protestants in Ireland to begin with were due to the plantations which was a ploy to overtake wipe put the Irish language, hence why we all speak English now! So it's not really to do with the religion at all but the fact that most of them came from England during that time!

And yes us Irish are aware that it is a celtic language :)

  • @shaunaSKITTLES

I understand the bad blood between the English and Irish and why there is resentment there. My point was from an outsider's point of view. Regarding the language itself and this video, there were arguments among two Christian religious views about a language that is pagan in origin. You don't find that the least bit amusing? I suppose it may not be so funny to someone in the thick of it. I know it's close to home for you being an Irish native.

  • @sica3820 Hmm you seem to be under the impression that all this prejudice against protestants is happening all over Ireland all the time? Well it's not, so I'm not in the thick of anything really :L Sure Irish had it's pagan roots but so did everything, Christ wasn't around at the time of it's origins so it doesn't really matter if it's pagan or not.

  • I was fascinated listening to you speak in Irish. I'm American and it's a completely foreign language to my untrained ears but interesting nonetheless. I was reading through your comments and I just have to point out something I found amusing regarding the debate over Catholic and Protestant speakers of the language. People do realize it's a Celtic language, right? Christians fighting over a pagan language! lol!!

  • @sica3820 its not a celtic language its a gaelic language, it was thought before that irish people are descended from celts but its not true we were Gaels ! not celts

  • @FinuteD1

Thank you for trying to correct me on the origins of the language. It made me go look it up out of curiosity and what I found out was that it is indeed a Celtic language as the Gaels were a Celtic tribe. We were both correct. All Gaels are Celtic but not all Celts are Gaelic.

  • @sica3820 Thanks for that :)

  • were did u learn to speak irish

  • Yea!! Ya still have this vid posted! Thanks man.. I love it!

    Merry Christmas

  • An-mhaith! But just to point out, that German is "Gearmánís" not Gearmánach. And French is "Fraincís" not Francach. But well done! :)

  • maith thù! ta sè go deas!

  • I heard that certain names come from different parts of Ireland, do you know where "Handley" is from...by any chance?

  • Deas thú ag labhairt as gaeilge, ach níl sé cruinn!! Haha

  • Tusa vt diul fear :P

  • Go deimhin a fhios gaige seo cad atá sé ag caint faoi

  • i love how every language u meantion is the same only with gach on the end of it

    except gearmanach

    Slán

  • if the article comes after after le, it has to be leis. you can't say "le an." you said "le an ceol" so it should be "leis an ceol." just looking out. fair play for doing this

there are names that I have no idea how to pronounce. You've got names like Bun nAhaben, or first names like Owen that english soldiers pronounce Roland to make it comical. I dont see how you see any ressemblence with Owen and Roland. Can you please help me pronounce those?

  • I am Catholic. There's notin wrong with that.

    Why hate each other though?

  • aren't protestant Irish people the ones who betrayed their countrymen and sided with the English?

  • The majority are people who came over from England during the plantations, but eventually realised England were wrong and started rebellions. Sure look at 1798, half of them were protestant including the leader! The majority of Irish people whether prod or catholic get on grand and we play GAA and speak Irish together. its onl;y a small majority that are hateful

  • Maith maith tú. Tá Gaeilge ar dóigh agat a stócaigh!

  • I love Ireland -- I'm half irish and half cuban and often thought I'd get a long better in Ireland than an Irish-Brit, hahaha.

  • Almost like Éamon de Valera =D

  • Have you ever heard Cherish the Ladies' "On Christmas night"? They have a beautifully haunting rendition of "Silent Night" in Irish. That's probably the one Christmas record I'll never grow tired of. :)

Also, as we're drawing closer to December, I'll try to put up "Glade jul(, dejlige jul)" -- the Danish version of "Silent Night" -- soon.

  • nope can't say i've ever heard of them i'm afraid, but if you do put up a danish vid, then early cheers and thanks dude :)

  • Well, I can only say that you really ought to find it and give it a listen. They're one of the best Irish trad. groups (IMHO), and their songs are stunning. (Apart from "On Christmas night", "The Girls Won't Leave the Boys Alone" also has a fair share of tracks with the ladies singing.)

  • hehe you're the first filipino dude i hear speaking Gaeilge. i'm filipino too, but i grew up in NYC. Good job on these vids!

  • i want to be able to speak in this language =(

you should make a video that translates english into irish gaelic, but slowly. =D

    I would love you forever

  • Yes it is a brilliant language!! but not many people have an interest in it anymore.. :(

But it is still alive enough!!

    Is grá liom gaelige! :D

  • say what?

    lol

  • I couldn't listen to that. You sing... bad? I learn Munster's dialect of Irish, maybe this one is other, but I think that your accent is too much... english? I say, I come from Poland and I can hear Irish only in Enya's songs. She sings without this "r" like in English. So do I.

  • Hmm, he is actually Irish you know....

  • You come from Poland? How do you not think he is Irish? He is clearly Irish, I am English and it is clear he does not sound English.

  • I think he sounds lovely, lovely carol.

  • Bless! It's making me feel all Christmassy already! ;)

  • he must feel like a horrid bolox!:L

  • wow that sounds so mutch like scottish gaidhlig laguage

  • good job!!!! i part irish and lots more

  • Das cool bro!!! Keep up the good work and thanx for sharin'! Also thanx for puttin' in english subtitles for those of us unfortunate to know irish!

  • My English accent is often mistaken for an Irish accent by other Americans. My irish ancestors came to Maryland in 1607 and to the mountains of Kentucky in 1778. only two Irish words survived -fenians as a term of affection for rowdy children and dgellis (faithful) for generations of dogs. I'd love to learn more, parial to the ulster dialog. Suggestions?

  • You ought to upload an audio (.mp3) of yourself reciting something common that we all know here in the U.S. I am facinated by accents and their change over time. If you still have the remnants of an Irish accent after 400 years of ancestors living here, please let us in on the sound. Thanks, Dennis (3rd gen. from Galway)

  • Yeah i remember when i was doing my leaving cert, for the Irish Aural exam the teacher would bring in tapes for us to listen to of people all different places in Ireland, needless to say i could never quite get the Donegal accent (hell some accents in english can be hard to get also, like that real strong Cork accent)

  • Haha funny you say that. I learned the Donegal and Connat accents because I checked all my Irish with my then-bf, who was raised in Donegal and moved to Galway.

  • woooo, go you! you look like you wouldnt know a word of irish but there you go!...i have my exams next year...where did you learn such good irish??

  • Primary school mostly, seeing as it was an all irish speaking school (Gael Scolie) but went i went to secondary it was an english speaking school and i lost a lot in those years... and even more now that i'm out of school and hardly ever using it, nobody where i am speaks it outside of school, makes it a lot harder to keep it, but i try

  • If you're looking for someone to speak it with... I am nowhere near your level. A yank who took a liking to the language (welsh/scottish in me and I choose to learn Irish, go fig), but if you're willing to teach then we can converse?

  • nobody pronounces anything k'rock!!! where the hell in ireland were you?

  • Tá tú an-mhait ag canadh as gaeilga.

Níl is agum a lán gaeilge

    ta me ag foughlaim !

    Chonaic mé do físeán eile.

    bhi se go hionteach

Taim ablta ag caint oiche chuin ach nílim go maith ag canadh

    slan go foil

  • oh my god whats with the major vibrato?lol

  • go h-iontach ar fad! Nollaig shona duit.

  • shut up shut up SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • be nice now!

  • hehe sorry! iv only just looked at your reply! i dunno, maybe i was a wee bit harsh, but he annoyed me!! and he has a parting!! lol!

  • gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

  • aww, dont be so mean!

    ps were not all gay!

  • your a good singer although it took forever forever for you to explain how you were going to do the video!

  • This is so great! I have lived in Wales for the past 8 years and have just returned to ireland and have missed hearing the Irish language - although the Welsh language is lovely to listen too.

Fair play to you for remembering so much Irish - I'll use these vids to brush up...

  • Heh.. Sorry if this is offensive, but gailge sounds like a mix of chinese/japanese and hebrew.. Never heard it spokem before with full sentences..

  • That's because he has a weird accent:S I'm irish and when i pseak irish, i sound irish and i dnt sound like that.....I think it's cause while I was listening to him he has alot alot or english pronoucciations on leters every hear and there....but he's still understandable....to an extent...he just neds to go to ireland for a long long period in a gaeltacht region, and soak up an accent and proper pronoucation..

  • Tá sé Eirnach! Feach ar a vids eile foain teanga. Tá a cuid gaeilge nios fear na an gaelige ata agam agus freastail me ar gaelscoil do ocht blian. (yes, I know my spelling is a bit off here and there) He's got one of those mid atlantic accents that a lot of younger irish people who grew up with american television have. I know a lot of (IRISH!) people with accents like his.

  • Hi!

If you search for "Stilla natt" you´ll find this song in swedish:) I can´t upload videos by my self yet, but maybe in the future there will be a new post comment here with me singing ;)

  • That would be cool if you could :)

  • go maith

  • Go raibh mait buchail. Conas tu aga caint as gaeilge? Ta me ag caint as gaeilge agus bearla fresin!

  • I thought the video was interesting, I liked it! I'm not even going to get into "homg you're american don't speak Irish!" bit because, wow, anyway! You did a good job and you had fun. That's all what 'tubing is about, in the long run, isn't it? Having fun ;)

  • Wait a minute, are you saying you think he's American?

  • No he's saying that because he's American, he didn't know Irish was a language. It makes sense, I don't think many Americans are aware that Irish is a language.

  • im of irish blood and american blood and i thought you did great =)

    erin guh brawk =)

  • MokongX3M you should start giving lessons on the language here, that would be cool, call it TÚ Tube

  • MokongX3M you should start giving lessons on the language here, that would be cool, call it TÚ Tube

  • so get educated on the facts before you try to speak for 3.5 million others again. And If a few million "yanks" wanna be Irish cos their great grandmother was then let them come here and bring some True Irishness back to this Emerald Ilse of ours cos retards like you are the new breed of Irish....... but you got your culture from American TV&Films and PS2 games,

Slán go foil, go raibh maith agát

  • I speak Gaelic, and am semi-fluent in Irish, so have plenty Gaelic culture. es, I watch a lot of American films. Great ones too, but I don't try to be a Yank, nor should they try to be Irish.. My mates, fluent Irish speakers from your island, detest the idiots Plastics as well. So you think blacks born and raised in Ireland aren't Irish? You're a racist then mate. I'm a nationalist. Learn some grammar please.

  • excellent!!!

  • that uh.. antaghan.. must be speaking for only a few people, because most of us are happy that people like our languages enough to try to learn them. what do they know anyway? pfsht and they couldn't even make sense in what they wrote. but I think you did great =]

  • im part irish

  • Very nice song! More Irish!

  • that was very pretty makes me want to fall asleep lol but nicely done

  • If you're born and brought up in Ireland, you're Irish. Nothing (a Scot) and my Irish mates hate more than these dumfuck Yanks trying to pass themselves off as one of us. THE ARE YANKS, NOT SCOTS/IRISH, FUCK OFF! We don't like you.

  • us yanks dont have anything better to do with our time but learn dead languages the irish hardly speak

and most yanks have irish ancestory

on thing i cant stand is irish scottish people hogging all the cultural indenty

    dont be greedy

    you just english

  • Life moves on and people move on just necause not all of Us still live in our home land that dose not take away the fact that were Irish you need to Fuck off. oh and dont clump Irish and Scots were differnt people and its rude

  • No, they weren't different poeple you tit. The Scotti were a Goidelic tribe who exanded there kingdom of Dal Riata from the north of Ireland to Argyle, Scotland, then beyond, in the 5th century after the fall of the Roman Empire.

  • I'm Irish too and I don't appreciate AMADÁNS like you speaking for us all.... "you don't have to be Irish to be IRISH" its a state of mind more than a nationality . There are very few true Irish ppl left in this country mostly dullards like you who don't have anything better to do than knocking others down.

  • a true Irishman would not pass a comment like that and don't speak for the scots either they are quite capable of speaking 4 themselves. OH and we had a referendum here a few years ago that decided that if your born and raised here in Ireland it doesn't entitle you to call yourself Irish you need to have Irish ancestry to be Irish these days moron and Quite a few Ppl are born and raised here but are actually Polish or Chinese(or whatever)..............

  • Dude you are a complete legend, I watched all your videos! Fair play, I wana' learn Irish and I'm gona' start night classes! Keep up the good work!

  • Kia Ora & Dia Dhuit! Skin tone should not be relevant as a person of mixed ethnic origins myself I just regard myself as a good Kiwi with equal footings in both the Maori and Irish traditions. Kia Kite tenei te kotou.

  • you look oriental! are you all irish or have you some foreigh blood in your veins. Wish i could speak the language as fluently as you. You clearly have a great love for our native tongue.

  • i just realised if i had a euro everytime someone brought up the "you don't look irish" thing, i'd have a lot of euros, haha.

Yeah my mother is from the Philippines, but i was born and rared on the Emerald Ilse, skin might be brown, but blood runs green, haha

  • so are you one of the dublin o'halpins! Are you a hurler as well. What has your experience of going up in ireland been like "not looking irish" One of my family have recently adopted a child from vitnam. I worry that they will suffer racial abuse later. Do you find ireland a tolerant, liberal place to live.

  • I played hurling in primary, but wasn't very good at it :P

When i was growing up there weren't many filipinos here so alot of time people would think i was chinese or japanese, i experienced some bad moments, but generally in school and stuff got on well with my class mates and my skin was never an issue, they knew my mother was foreign but never made an issue of it. Though the ireland we live in now is different from when i was a kid

  • GLORIOUS LAD GLORIOUS! I should hope no ignoble bastards would harrass you merely for the pigment of your skin. keeping the love of the irish language alive. BEAUTIFUL! BEAUTIFUL! How could a guy in upstate NY go about learning it? Any suggestions?

  • unfortunatley there are always those who will look no further than the skin, but anyway, i wouldn't know personally where you could learn Irish, but do a search here on youtube for a guy called "IrishHermit" he did a video response to my first Irish video and mentioned some learning tools he has/knows of

  • Kia Ora and greetings from New Zealand. I like your Irish language videos and regret that I can't speak the language my late grandmother spoke as her native language. I am part Maori and Part Irish and make an effort NOT to use English at home and only Te Reo Maori. Irish people should speak Irish and not English otherwise it will be your loss.
