The amount of rattles on rattlesnakes does not indicate how old it is because their rattlers grow each time they shed and some rattles fall of from time to time. I figured that was an interesting fun fact
I live in central NC and hardly ever see a rattler anymore I got one my Dad and I killed in early 80's that has 12 rattles and a button.I am looking at it as I type this.
Beautiful specimen. Now if only we can outlaw Rattlesnake Roundups. More people die of Car crashes, Bee stings, Lightning strikes among other things than from Rattlesnake bites. Also, around 80% of rattlesnake fatalities were bitten when trying to kill the snake. So truly, the person deserved to die, he or she was doing the exact thing the snake was trying to prevent.
Ah,buddy,I love the EDB and all,,but while at the Center for Bio Toxins in College Station TX, I saw some of the hugeest atrox in captivity, one of which was every bit of 6.5 feet,Also seen some pretty big Canebreaks in GA.and I personaly know of one canebreak exceeding 6',a world recordIn fact, the possibility of finding an EDR,over 5' today with habitat destruction and just wanton killing and stupidity, would be pretty rare
Beautiful snake

$35 a pound for the meat, $5 for the buttons, and 20 for the hide, not counting
they won't kill 6 head of cattle yearly on the ranch I work part time for.
