I was in country in Naval Intelligence in 1965 and discovered we were not allowed to win the war. We could have won the war at any time but the directives from the White House were to perpetuate the war and every commander in that theater knew it. LBJ and his cronies were personally making millions off the US troops they were having killed. Honoring his memory in any way disgusts me.

Shame that Federal authorities had to be diployed to a massive civil unrest. It can be fairly said that the then govornor Romney, and mayor of detroit failed to control its communities, and should have resign their positions. (even if Romney have asked for assistant from Johnson's administration days later after they thought they can have situations under controlled).

Romney though he had this situation under controlled, but he could not handle the out-of-control situation. sadly! Detroit never recovered.
