@yo2liw Hi Adi, they are both superb radios, the 703 output power is little more than the 817 when run from 12v battery packs. The 703 needs 13.8v to provide 10 watts but has the obvious advantage of the built in ATU. however I do prefer using an LDG-Z11 Pro with the 817 it can match a much wider impedance range- essential for tuning open wire fed dipoles. I sold my 703 and my preferred portable station is the 817 with the Z-11.
@Vespacuore Sorry I missed this question, mountain operation can be great to take advantage of ground gain. This can be as much as 6 to 10dB at very low angles and superb for working long haul DX.
