I don't know why, but there is a gloomy "goht in the machine" type of sound that the commodore vic-20 makes, which the C64 does not have. so to me, the vic-20 has very desirable sound properties even if it can only do square wavs and noise. It has its own thing going nonetheless.
@OBSysteme A lot of the characteristic VIC-20 sound comes from the fixed 1600 Hz low-pass filter that smooths down all the waveforms. It is possible to simulate this on SID with a proper filter setup, but I'm not sure if SID can ever get close enough. A "perfect low-fi soundchip", in my opinion, would probably be something like SID but with some VIC-I-like "enhancements" that make it sound harsher and thicker.
I have to crack up at the fact that there's fisheye in the raycaster (yes, it's a ray*caster*, not a ray*tracer*, they're different - raytracers are per-pixel whereas raycasters tend to be per-vertical-line) but I still reckon this is amazing.
Although pi is 3.141592653589793238462643*38327...*, not *25...*... a few more iterations could have patched this.
nothing short of amazing I love the code this guy makes it always makes me feel like I'm in ana apocalyptic world ruled by 8 bit computers.I would love to be able to code in machine code like that.Love it.
never had a vic20, new it only from old C64 magazines where they also had a corner for vic20, with some code listings and pictures heh. I roughly know the specs, and have done some c64 programming, so I can imagine how hard this is to do :)

Great demo, I especially love tge raytracer part. Real coderpr0n.

you get the sense with the vic-20 that it could have done much more.

Haha brilliant Viznut! Did you see the Orb VIC demo at Sundown?

I wasn't at Sundown, but I have watched the demo a couple of times with my own VIC :) Great stuff.

You coming to Breakpoint?

Not quite sure yet, but it's quite probably. The last time I visited non-Finnish parties was 2004.
