  • how can somebody does a beautiful song like this! This is absolutely a miracle, there is no any word to describe this! thank you mark that you born, and thank you all of your work!

    A fan from HUNGARY!!!!!!!

  • It never gets old , Mark knopfler is a LEGEND <3

  • thank you mark for writing such a beautiful song that immortalizes my grandfathers place of work

  • A Border Reiver was a Scottish cattle rustler that rode across the border on horses and stole English cows. It is talking about being a Scot in England and stealing a way of life. Kind of legal alien stuff.

  • @horsesshotatdawn He is singing about the Albion trucks of the 60's. How they made their runs over the border from Glasgow to Newcastle. His memory of watching them trucking down the motorway past his house. 'Sure as the sunrise' was a moto used by Albion to decribe how reliable the trucks were

  • Great wagon, fast, cheap to maintain and good on soft ground; Happy Days :)

  • was mir an den mark gefällt ist, dass jeder egal, was er fürn spacko ist, seine träume u wer weiss was sonst noch in seinen liedern hiennein interpretieren kann!!

  • è proprio bravo sto uomo...

  • Mark Knopfler is one of the very few that doesn't seem to have lost an ounce of creativity as he aged. If anything (blasphemy alert), I think his solo work as a whole is better than his work with Dire Straits.

  • @kilroy1976 agreed; most of his solo albums are masterpieces.. but i guess for selected audience

  • this fluet reminds me Jethro Tull songs

  • he talks when he sings but it can sound wiered but not this song!! :)

  • nce calm song

  • sunrise symbol on radiater , typical poor heating, good gearbox, reliable truck

  • legend

  • can't stop listening to this track amazing mark

  • @varma9229 Ditto :)

  • What is a six foot driver?

I´m also not native english speaker.

  • @BulletproofRaiden that's a driver who is 6 feet tall. This song is about the albino truck ( border reiver ) wich travelled in england somewhere in the sixtees. It was a pain in the ass to shift gears so that's why he sings ' she needs the human toe' and 'sure as the sunrise is what they say about the albino' what means that the truck almost never broke down.

  • @aapddd

    Ah, OK, that makes sense.

    Thank you very much.

  • @aapddd I believe the actual lyrics are "Sure as the sunrise, that's what they say about the Albion" and "She needs the heel and toe" - not that it makes a huge amount of difference, but I figured you might like to know :)

  • @MaserLaser yes thank you ! anyway, great lyrics from the Mark :D

  • @BulletproofRaiden Means he's six feet tall but the seat is set for a shorter man and you can't adjust it. IMO

  • All his songs are simply awesome

  • Mark Knopfler is the bes guitarist ever.

  • I've got a question about the lyrics: in the last part of the song, does he really say

"The ministry dont worry me my paperwork's alright"

    ?

Because the word after "paperwork's" sounds different to me, but I can't figure out what he says. However, I am not a native english speaker so I may be wrong. Maybe it is just a pronunciation of the word that I've never heard.

  • @HobertMallow Yes, he really sings "alright" but you don´t get to hear the "t" at the end.

  • What an incredible beginning...you can almost see the Scottish hills....

  • nice song

  • Takes me back to my childhood when I spent al my holidays in the cab of an Albion Reiver six wheeler wiith Caswells livery of South Wales, driven by my dad, Bert!!

  • beautiful ^^

    we love it <3

  • What is the instrument which is played in the begining?

  • @CrazyWaldo100

Hey, Waldo, it's a penny whistle. Glad you like the sound.

  • @CrazyWaldo100 It's most likely an irish flute. It's a pretty neat instrument and while it's greatly used in folk music, artists like Mark Knopfler & The Corrs show it can be easily adapted to suit other musical genres as well.

  • @Shadowboro2 this is folk.... so is corrs, its just rock aswell

  • @CrazyWaldo100 it's a penny whistle

  • godfather of guitar

  • Mark Knopfler is awesome !!!

  • @Tibi87 I saw him Live once :]
