Doesn't Galatians 5:22-23 teaches us one of the fruits of the Spirit is self-control? I watch the clips of people supposedly speaking in tongues and there's no self-control,therefore, it isn't the Holy Spirit but a counterfeit which is from Satan.

That is the Word of God and whoever denies it either they're teaching heresies which is a sin(like the Charismatic Movement currently is) or servants of Satan masquerading as servants of God.

The word of God tells us to speak in tongues when we're alone because it only edifies ourself.(Unless there are 2 or 3 interpreters.)Then it goes on to tell us to desire to prophesy because it edifies all who hears.I find no era in your teaching because I understand the truth. This was one of the verses he used, but i cant see that paul is against speaking in tongues here, likewise in vers 27-28 He doesnt say that we cant speak in tongues, he only says that we keep it between us and God if noone can translate it.

Although I believe in the biblical tongues (I don't speak it), I don't believe in most of what is going on today. I don't agree with everything this guy says either because he avoids certain verses and exagerates some things.

He also says at 5:40 that prophet doesn't mean predicting the future but came to mean this in the middle ages. I'm sorry but all the OT prophets prophesied the future including in the NT (Acts 11:27,28).

@MrKattt The etymology of the word "prophet" will tell you that it means "one who speaks for someone." It had nothing to do with describing foretelling the future until the middle ages, just like MacArthur said. He's not denying that the OT prophets foretold future events, he said that the meaning of the word didn't take on that connotation until the middle ages, which is what you will find in a quick search of the word "prophet" to discover its history.

Speaking in tongues is a sign for unbelievers as well as a gift that is beneficial for the edification of individual believers and the church as a whole when an interpreter is present. Read 1 Corinthians chapter 14 for yourselves and ask the LORD to reveal it to you according to your measure of faith.......remember that GOD opperates in an orderly manner, not a chaotic one.

Now if there is an interpreter present, speaking in tongues coupled together with interpretation equals a word of prophecy that has the potential to edify the church. What is being said by the person speaking in tongues may just be personal praise to GOD. Nevertheless, praise does edify.

Clarification: At 1:18 up to 1:22 john macArthur says that the apostle paul said that tongues can not edify, this is incorrect. Paul wrote, in 1 Corinth. 14:4, that he who speaks in an unknown language edifies himself. Speaking in tongues, or unknown languages, does edify the believer on an individual level. However, it is more beneficial for the church that a believer prophesy rather than speak in tongues.

What Paul meant was that he that speaks in a language is boasting and promoting himself above others. "Hey, look at me! The amazing thing about the gospel is that JESUS died for our sins. The scribes at that time knew the scriptures better than anyone. The only problem was that they couldn't see JESUS for who he was. Indeed Paul said in 1 corinthians 14:18 "I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you." But he also said in verse19 "But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue." My advice for all is to read the 1 corinthians chapter 12, 13, and 14 for full understanding

If you read letters like Romans and Gal you will see Paul's sarcastic side (ex Gal 3:1), But what is actually your issue with what the teacher is saying? That babbling is wrong? Do you honestly believe that God wants us to babble...the word tongue is literally translated language: NT:1100 glossa (gloce-sah'); of uncertain affinity; the tongue; by implication, a language (specially, one naturally unacquired): this Greek definition is for the verse you referred to (vs 4).
