@lookgooddz, yes we are. I don´t wanna sound arrogant, but if you read/hear statements of many bands, they say that too. Most of them love to come to Germany because they think we are really passionate. So something must be wrong with the cliche that we´re supposed to be lame asses. ;-)
@XChecksterX I heard it from an interview of Roxette after the summer joyride tour !1992 ! Elvis for Example !! came to germany ! listen to Per Gessle's (Roxette) song "Elvis in germany ,let's celebrate" !
i had this lovely song in a 1991 compilation "Hits fascination" with John Farnham/Vanilla ice/Enigma/A-ha and many others ,,thanks for posting ,,but the song was not aired so much and didn't do well in the charts ,,i don't know why !!!
That was a once-and-never-again thing because they were booked for this show at the very last minute. The band had only just reformed after more than 10 years and had released their comeback album, but they weren't prepared for live concerts yet. But the promoter of this show was so impressed that he wanted them to play. From then on they always play(ed) live. Check out my other videos (or my Sailor playlist) ;-)
It was their comeback hit over here in Germany. As well as their other 1991 hit "La Cumbia". Unfortunately all other Sailor songs were overlooked in the UK and in most other countries too, apart from "Girls Girls Girls" and "A Glass Of Champagne". But Sailor have so much more to offer.....
Thanks! Do you know which of their records charted in Germany? I have some books that contain the UK and USA charts since they began but cannot find information for other countries.
It's a book with chart positions and a short description and information about bands or singers. For example birth dates of the band members, etc., the way, the band got founded. The "tops" of their careers, the end of the band. Stuff like that. It's written in German. I don't know about other languages. I got it as a Christmas present from my brother a few years ago. My edition is from 2002, however, now there are newer version of it. Mine has been published in two volumes. "A-L" and "M-Z".
Thanks very much for this information. They were obviously far more appreciated in Germany than the UK. Over here they only charted with the first two and "One drink too many". "Blue desert" and "The secretary" really should have sold well but I never heard them on UK radio stations. It annoys me that a few people in control of radio playlists can deny us the opportunity to hear some good music while playing the same six songs over and over again.
I know that "problem", I'm a 22-years old Smokie fan and no-one can get that it's the music that counts and not only the looks or even age... I agree - this is very catchy.
Just be proud to be unique, walk your own way and see what happens.
To Leeloo: There's the beauty of this music - that it transcends age and years. Good, clever, well written music will appeal to anyone with the ears and the good sense to appreciate it. You just have to be open to it and not judge it by is it "hip" right at the moment. That's when something wonderful will happen and the magic will capture you. Keep loving Sailor and ignore the ignoramus' around you!

This song is really nice. Sailor are a cool band.
But...
Am I the only one who is sure that we're hearing playback here?
That's pretty low, isn't it?

Sailor's "Nickelodeon" (that big blue instrument) has two sides... treble and bass.

Definately their best song...such a shame it never hit Britain it rocks

This is fantastic! I've never heard of it before! Was it ignored by our UK radio stations? Was it a big hit in Germany?

I can't find any information about this song in my chart positions book, however:
according to "Frank Laufenbergs Hit-Lexikon des Rock und Pop" it says:
A Glass of Champagne (12/75 GB 2; 2/76 D 3).
Girls, Girls, Girls (3/76 GB 7; D 2)
"D"=Deutschland, meaning Germany.
Try sailor-marinero . com for more information. There's a page with chart positions.
There it says that A Glass of Champagne was "D 4", not "D 3".

Thanks Melie. The Frank Laufenberg book sounds like just what I'm looking for.

However, it has wrongly written names in it concerning my favourite band, Smokie:
Mike Craft becomes Mike Craff;
Steve Pinnell becomes Steve Pinnelli ;-)
That's why I don't "trust" this book very far...
