  • John Cowan is the best vocalist period.......

  • You all are aware that John is the backup vocalist on Garth Brooks version of this right? Garth Brooks has made and given many a compliment to this amazing voiced man. Listen to Garth Brooks version and you will hear his amazing voice. there is no mistaking it.

  • I am also aware that NGR recorded this for their Anthology record before Garth recorded a version.

  • damn awesome!!!

  • That's gotta be the BEST version of 'Baton Rouge' I've ever heard...bar none. Excellent!

  • Dennis Linde wrote the song. He also wrote Burning Love for Elvis...

  • ok.. well.. i dont even remember my point.. but garth brooks is a commercial country joke, and guys like these guys never get the recognition they should.. unfortunately talent doesnt determine success.. anyways, thanks for the clarification.

  • No problem on the clarification, but I only halfway agree with you on the Garth being a joke comment. When he did his thing day in and day out he was unbelievable, but now that he does it off and on,he's become a joke. He is a huge fan of Newgrass Revival and he proved it again on the album Sevens by rerecording "Do What You Gotta Do" with Cowan on harmony again. Garth's version is not that bad at all in my opinion. You are also right, that NG didn't recieve the respect they deserved.

  • Talent like NGR is so great that it goes WAY over most people's heads. I guess they don't hear it because they are simply AVERAGE with average appreciation. I disagree with you guys about Garth Brooks, though. I like Garth tremendously and I don't think people should be so pissed off at him because he decided to live his life without the rest of us in it all the time. I would do the same thing if I could afford it and so would you average fuckers, ha!

  • @kanix999 ..and you, of course, are a forgotten star of country music that we should revere? Just how many millions of albums haven't you sold?

  • Ha...Because I have a musically-intelligent opinion, meaning I don't just accept any old junk they put on the radio like most people out there, and I like real music like NGR, that doesn't mean I have to be a country star that's sold millions of albums. Your comment doesn't even make sense. I'm guessing you're the type that would argue against me saying 'have you sold millions of albums?' if I said someone like lady gaga had just trash music.greattt point.

    COUGH selling albums= talent.. COUGH

  • he does this song way better than anyone I've heard you...love you guys.. keep it going

  • Does anyone here know who WROTE this song? When I do a Google, it seems as though all the repsonses scream Garth Brooks, but when the Oakridge Boys did it, Garth was sixteen or seventeen years old going to school in Yukon OK. (I don't think much of him). If anyone can tell me, please let me know your source.

  • I like the New Grass Revival version better. Has the drums in it.

  • @musicianforjesus IMHO the drums in the NGR version make it sound less bluegrassy. I like it better without the drums.

  • @jasobres Yeah I know what you're saying. Of course I never considered NGR a straight ahead bluegrass band anyhow because their were so many influences in the band. From jazz to rock but both versions are good.

  • evidently

  • Evidently you don't know the history of John and NewGrass Revival and Garth. Garth loved the song and NewGrass Revival so he had John sing it and NewGrass Revival played on his recording Garth was just singing backup. NewGrass Revival recorded this song first in the 80s and Garth heard it and loved it. So he wanted it done by them on his record.

  • Now that i did Enjoy i will try the same cover myself real soon via boring Karaoke style 5/5

  • he is the first person to come out with this song

  • outstanding! the blackberry blossom breakdown in the middle was an unexpected addition.

  • Oh thank you so much for sharing this video. I LOVE this version of this song!!! When I first hear it, I had to learn it on the mandolin :)

    MUCH THANKS!

  • sick song

  • He and the band do a fine job on this song!

  • love the band,,the song and johns voice is thiii best!

  • This is such a great song. Thank you.

  • he sings this so much better than garth brooks. love that voice
