I was at this concert too- right at the front slightly to the right of the stage- was totally blown away- a truly amazing experience. Have seen many, many bands, and this ranked as one of the best. Highlights? Under Pressure maybe?
First & only time I saw Bowie - Amazing. Station to Station is one of my favourite albums, and, although it may be a cover, he has really made Wild is the Wind his own. Great footage.
When he walks to his left @ 5:10 he is coming over to read a sign that two mad girls dumped over the barrier in front of my girlfriend & I. The sign read "Jesus Loves You David". He kinda looked at us funny!
Nearly all of Station to Station was played (not hard I know), & with Earl Slick. I was also at The Freddie Mercury Tribute, the last time he played with Ronno. Making me a very very lucky boy indeed. Thank you David.
@MynameisElliott Yes, and the tw@ts squashed me and our lasses tent ;) Still pretty crazy thinking me and the ex are in that crowd, good times..............
awful audience. at last he had what he always craved for: a nazi rally all hailing him in a huge mass, probably the biggest he had. and he's dressed up as 30 years before, only with a 'real' man's dress this time (quote), when he played glast the first time, especially the hair, i'd say. scary. wild is the wind. come on.
I don´t know if this has been discussed before but his hair and outfit looks very "Hunky Dory" (his album from 1971), doesn´t it? And wasn´t it in that year that he played his first Glastonbury-show? So this could be a case of a Bowie-tongue-in-cheek self-reference kind of a thing...
i wish he would play live again i would die after hearing his music one more time live he has been a great inspiration for so many people including me!
@edj66 led zeppp are boring so are boring floyd, get a life m8, BOWIE is like no other, he has class / posture that no man man can think off,,,,,,,,,,,,,, AC/DC are better than both of your shit bands btw. Bryan Ferry comes a close 2nd to Bowie he has style / originalitty.
@FreneticKey Yes, they are indeed bands. I fail to see what relevance that has. Also, you failed to insult me using proper English, so therefore I feel it's ironic you called me a dumb shit. Fuck off.
He was the one performer at the whole fest who really showed why he was a star, It was the last time I went to glastotnbury having been going since 1981 except 86, untill 94 then went for him in 2000. Too busy and pop now!
Little comments like the last sentance really make me laugh. It's still the best music festival in Britain by a stupid distance. More likely your other half won't allow you to go so you justify it like that. Since when were the main stages not pop and busy? :)
The main stages during the eighties were never "pop", and as for busy........ when I first went there in 1981 there was 18,000 people, in 2000 there was 150,000, you do the maths. There was also more freedom at the earlier events, with room to lay about in fields of flowers. with no Police on site to spoil the "fun", but as you say its still the best around, but nowhere near as good as it was. as for my other half... well she keeps bugging me to go again, its ME thats against it.
Fair enough about the crowds but I do go to festivals of a few k's and really love them , doesn't make them better because of it. I like the scale and there are still places to escape to for more peace if need be. Look at who played in the eighties too, you can't tell me there was no popular music either, just a few but Aswad, Simply Red, Level 42, etc. . You should listen to your other half and I'll see you for a beer there some day! Even if you do still have those rose tinted glasses
I was there hard to believe that it was nearly 9 years ago . i love this footage shows Bowie as the Rock n Roll Legend
he is.
This was on the Sunday night i had an amazing moment when Bowie sang All the Young Dudes felt like i was moving towards the stage and my body had this kind of warm glow though 4 days of drink and drugs gonna have some effect i guess!
Was mindblowing to be in a field in somerset listening to Bowie preform Station to Station
I'm so ashamed to say that after getting a good place to see the show while waiting for Bowie to come on I had been drinking a bottle of vodka, I only remember seeing the first 3 songs and then I passed out... luckily I saw him in '96 at the Phoenix festival but I was gutted I missed this...
I always wondered why he never really played instruments while he sang. Early on in his career, he'd occasionally play an acoustic guitar or piano, but now he seems to just leave it to session musicians. I wish he would play instruments more. Musically, he's more talented than he makes himself out to be. He's an amazing vocalist though... so I'll let him get away with it!
Thanks for putting up Wild Is The Wind, China Girl and Changes. Would you mind uploading Stay from this show. Only seen a partial video of it which cuts Earl Slick off mid solo
I was there ^^ the only one of my family who could see (being sat on my dad's shoulders at the time) ^^
