ive always wondered how the terrorists would be able to locate the wtc and the pentagon and fly the planes to the exact target. airplanes need atc guidance to tell them the headings they have to go. or follow the flight plan's path with the gps and autopilot from vor to vor. how did they know the exact headings and path towards wtc?

@LiLTMac123 All they need to know is the latitude and longitude of the towers (which is obviously very easy to get) and they can program the FMC (Flight Management Computer) to fly directly to that location. Once they get within visual range of the towers, they can fly by hand from there.

The only aircraft that can vanish off radar are stealth, US doesn't have stealth aircraft that have air to air missles, only bombs. The only planes in the air over US that were military were f-16, f-15, etc. No fighter jet has the capability of going stealth (unseen by radar) There are some concepts of stealth high speed intercept fighter jets, but these were only dreamed of in 2001. I know this stuff because I have researched planes almost everyday for 5 years and am currently a student pilot.

Can't our military planes make it so the controller's can't see them on radar. Just saying. UAL93 could have been shot down. Either way it was a tragic accident and I can't even imagine how the families feel.
