hello, i have a chance to get one for a great price, but i also have my acer apsire 8930g on order, i am stuck, the pro is more money but i may be able to stretch to it. Any advice?
hey looks like you know alot.. is there a big shocking diference between a refurbished and a new one.. do you think the 15" is ok for school? dont want one to big need one to be portable...thanks for the help man.. take it easy..
Hey thanks for responding, I plan on using it with my music. Installing logic pro 9. It will be at my house mostly, but I'll take it with me when I have too. Also I plan on downloading windows 7 on it (I know alot of mac users will be upset but I have too) eventually I'll get final cut pro as well.
Personally, unless those extra 2 inches are a must-have for you, I'd go with the 15". It's the perfect size really, big enough to have a great display for photo/video manipulation but portable enough to take with you when you need to. Not to mention you'll probably find the SD card slot much more useful than the expansion slot, which is really meant for Pro users that have a specific use for it. If you can't think of a specific use for it, go with the 15". Thanks again for commenting!
Hey bro I'm going to get a new mbp here soon and I was wondering which one should I get the 15" or 17"? If I got the 15" my specs would be: 4gb ram, 500gb, 7200 rpm. Since the 17" comes with all but the 7200 rpm (I'd upgrade 5400 rpm on either computer) it basically comes down to the express card vs sd card, even though two extra inches is a plus. Im no professional so I don't know how much I'd make of the express card, but I was wondering what you thought?
Thanks for the comment! What sort of things do you plan on using it for? Also what kind of environment will it be in? (i.e. school, home, business - will it sit on your desk a lot of will you be carrying it around)
The battery life is great but you'll only get 7 hours if you're doing light work (word processing, browsing the web, maybe a bit of photo editing and so on). Doing more advanced tasks like gaming or video editing will cut the battery down to ~5 hours from my experience, which is still pretty good.
If you buy one now you'll be able to upgrade to Snow Leopard for just $9.95 US. Anyone who has purchased a Mac since the latest round of updates has been able to get in on this deal, just search for the Snow Leopard Up-to-Date Program on Apple's website and you should be good to go. Because of that I think you might as well buy now and enjoy! Thanks for the comment.
I'd say one would be the lack of a blu-ray player, many equivalent PC's have one. Also the fact that the battery is non-replaceable and it's a little more difficult to upgrade. Other than that, I can't think of many bad things to say. :)
The HDD is 250GB, and the delivery was very quick. I ordered mine the day it was announced and it was delivered 2 days later - however, if you're planning on changing anything from the default configurations expect the delivery to take a bit longer. Thanks for watching!
Mine is the lowest spec Macbook Pro right now (2.53ghz, 9400M graphics chip) and I love it! I don't use Time Machine though, I need to pick up a new external hard drive because mine died. Thanks for the comment!
I'm debating whether to get the 15" with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card, or the 15" with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 256MB graphics card. Is there a big difference? Will I be able to play games like Left 4 Dead on the basic one?
For gaming I'd recommend upgrading to the 9400M + 9600M. The 9400M is great 90% of the time but I'm not sure how it would perform with gaming. There's nothing worse than getting a machine and realizing it's underpowered, and worst-case scenario is if you spend a little more for the 9600M games will run better than they would have anyways. All I've played on mine is Battlefield Heroes and it ran pretty well, but it's built for modest hardware.
I have a question about the battery... I know the underside of the MBPros are flush now, meaning you can't access the innards of the machine in order to replace the battery or upgrade the RAM yourself. Apple is touting the fact that the battery life is longer up to 1,000 charges, right? So does that mean my battery will be dead in 3 years if it's charged everyday?
You can still access and replace the RAM and hard drive. The battery is set for 1000 full charges, which is better than the previous Macbooks. Just to give you an idea though I've had my 2006 Macbook for 3 years, it sits on the charger everyday but can still hold a 3 hour charge. Based on the increase these new batteries should last up to 5 years. I'll PM you a link with more info about hard drive and RAM replacements as well...thanks for watching and commenting!
i want to buy a macbook pro on which i want to import lots of photos and have lots of songs and edit videos in imovie and i want to try a bit of photoshop. i also want to install windows xp or vista to play games. my question is which one shall i buy? the 2.53Ghz 15inch or the 2.66 one which has a second graphics card? please reply. thank u
i wanted to get the 13" 2.53 ghz new macbook pro. but now am thinkin of getting 15" 2.66 ghz mainly cause of its dedicated graphic card. but i want something small and powerful at the same time.. too bad 13" does not have a dedicated gpu.. so should i buy the 15 or 13".. is it worth paying more for the 15" compared to the 13" ??
It really depends on what you'll use it for. I think the 13" is nice for casual use but I need something a little bigger for things like Photoshop, development, video editing and so on. For that reason the 13" not having discrete graphics is fine because it's only a 13" display so you won't be doing anything too intense. I find the 15" to be the sweet spot since it's still relatively small and portable yet the display is a good size. Thanks for the comment!
what is better? vmware? parallel? or crossover?? pelase reply asap..cause i'm planning to get one before the classes start here in the philippines... tnx..
i'm leaning towards the 17 inch which only has the exress card slot option instead of the SD card slot, in a nut shell, what can i use the express card slot for?
There are a lot of different uses for an express card slot, mostly dealing with expanding the capabilities of your machine. For example, you can get a wireless internet card from many of the cell providers that let you get internet access when you're out and about. There are also storage expansion solutions where you can hook up an SSD, and many other things. It's really more focused towards pro users who have a specific proprietary device they need to have access to.
They haven't implicitly said whether it supports SDXC or not. The slot definitely doesn't support the exFAT file system, but SDXC cards don't have to be formatted with exFAT so it's still possible. I'll PM you with a link that has some more info. Thanks for the comment!

I've heard after installing windows, the MBP is forced to use more battery life....have you considered this?

I've got Quake 2 installed on my Windows computer right now. But it's kind of illegally downloaded, so its just a bunch of files.
Could I use that in combination with some kind of update, so it'll run on a new MacBook Pro?

In that case Ill just buy Quake 2 for MAC. Windows is way too expensive for me.
