I'm 16 and I have the same problem. No one i know likes punk as much as i do. The punk legacy is embers now, but there is still that flame that will always be alive.
@FreeUlster1 Clearly looking in the wrong place if you're saying that the punk legacy is in embers... ton's of bands continuing the punk legacy it might not all sound like this but it's punk in one form or another... :)
@jimmy112 Well the only punk bands i can think of are the Dropkick Murphys, and.... well not much else. Blink 182 and Green Day just arent there when it comes to punk rock. I wish we could go back to the days of Minor Threat and G.B.H.
I hate my generation. I'm 14, I have maybe one or 2 friends who actually enjoy punk, and rock. All the rest are consumed by the black rappers and the gay's who can't sing, so they use autotune. Fuck it, fuck my generation. I'll love punk 'till I die, and I'm fucking proud to have been introduced to this genre. Stick it to the man!
@NumedyNum that seems pretty racist and homophobic. try being more open minded and take things for what they are. every genre has gems. you just got to dig for them sometimes
@HeshPrinceOfBelAir I didn't intend to be, all I was trying to say is that I wish more people would like this genre, I know not everyone likes the music I like, and I'm not trying to make my opinion sound more important than others, and that in my opinion singers like Justin Bieber aren't good, others may like him, I don't. Simple :-)
Nothing wrong with another band covering Clash songs. Yes, The Clash is the Clash, but I think this song is one for everyone to express in their own ways."A riot of my own" is what it's about. Everyone needs to do it or else we'd all be insane.
@1337maggots no its about how black ppl always fight for their rights when things happen to them but white ppl just take crap all the time and do nothing, its not fascist or anything, theres a better version by the clash though
i was born and bred in london, raised in the punk era, i know what we were all about, i am a north london boy, i screramrd, punched and kicked, i saw pistols, clash, siuoxie sue, and sham, i lived that life, in london, so don't say your crap, as syd would say, right about now, FUCK OFF, IDIOT
and some punks just don't give a fuck about what other people think about them and do whatever they like, like listening to fucking great British punkrock. So piss off you american cunt.
Punk is far from fuckin dead punk isnt a music its a type of mindstate. and no matter how long this world goes on someone is always going to have that mindstate.
Ah. But the mind state which is punk, is one of originality, and intelligence. Both of which are completely distant from "punk" after the sex pistols. So yes, punk is dead. Because the, "mindset" became a fad, a fashion, and it was sold. A true "punk" mindset these days, would not be a part of the "punk" culture of this time.
That's the slang definition. Spelling forgiven. But lets use that definition of punk when looking at the clash. Lets see how they didn't conform to a part of society, along with all the other "punks" these days shall we?
They all dress the same
They all act the same
The music is all the same
They beat up, and bully people who aren't the same
So, like I said before, punk is dead, and a true punk, who wouldn't conform, would not be a part of "punk" culture today. The Clash are a genre their own.
Respect your roots and read up on the history of where punk comes from, both foreign and domestic before you say things that make you sound like a 13 year old emo kid.
The Sex pistols were the ONLY punk band. Joe Strummer was in a pop band called the 101ers (or 101's) before hearing the Sex Pistols and starting a "punk" band.
Are you fucking kidding me? Listen, I like Sham, but you have to be out of your fucking mind in thinking that Jimmy's vocals are even close to Strummers, that Mick Jones' guitar playing isn't 1000 times better than this, and that Simonon's bass isn't 500 times better than this.
Are you serious? You're bashing the Clash? Probably the best group of instrumentalists in the Punk era? Sham didn't touch the ferocity, intelligence, or passion of the Clash's original.
Well, first I would go back to Velvet Underground and the Stooges, but I would definitely say the Ramones had a HUGE influence on punk. They "started" the genre much more than the Clash did. But I'll still assert the Clash did it the best.
My problem is that everyone around me says they like punk then they call blink182 "punk" I look at them as poser scum more than anything

HelloNurseWink 2 years ago
What are you talking about?
the deffinition of a punk is one who doesnt conform to the normal society.
Forgive my spelling..
but one who refuses to conform i dont care what "fad" you are is a punk.
A true punk knows that being a punk isnt a uniform its a way of life.
99nirvanafan99 2 years ago
That's the slang definition. Spelling forgiven. But lets use that definition of punk when looking at the clash. Lets see how they didn't conform to a part of society, along with all the other "punks" these days shall we?

lol the "punks" you know sound like total douche bags.
Punks i know dont bullyor beat on someone who isnt like them nor do they act the same some may dress the same but not all.
99nirvanafan99 2 years ago
Okay, well then those people, would not be punks. They would be something completely different. Which is okay. Good even.

But Ramones in NO WAY had anything to do with what punk truly was.
