  • I have a special bond with Neil. He's my Dad's lifes soundtrack. I grew up bouncing to his songs in my crib. I think of Neil as the musical bond between Dad and me. Even I have to admit, Cook did a masterful reinterpreting of the original sentiments of this truly beuatiful song.

  • good song - but spelling - tut tut - diamons dont shine - but diamonds do lol

  • Beautiful lyrics.

  • Lovely romantic lyrics if you listen through Neil's song completely. David Cook sang it a little more up tempo to complete his allotted time ( 1 1/2 minutes) so we did not hear the third stanza of this song. Instead David poured magnetism and passion in that short segment to capture the voters' attention out there in television kingdom. I play this all the time.

  • I love anything sung by him. I would like to see pictures of his children. He had two daughters by first wife, then two sons by his second wife. I wonder if any of them have his beautiful eyes.

  • I really want to listen to the studio version of David Cook's version of this song.

  • @garamond888 Just saw your comment. There never was a studio version :( We were cheated big time.

  • I need you more ♥ I miss you baby ♥

  • NICE SONG and also David Cook's version is so much GOOOD!!!!

  • Neil is great! But when David Cook did this song on idol...i was like WOWed! He really did a cool & 'modern' version of this lovely song! Yeah, no wonder Neil was so proud of David Cook!

  • i really wanna find the lovescape album

  • A lovely song. Frankly, I believe one of my dying dads favourite songs about my mother.

  • Thanks for uploading this. I love Neil Diamond but I never remember ever hearing this. When Cook was going to sing I couldn't figure out which song this was. Cook did a fantastic, fantastic version of Neil's song. It's no wonder Cook gave Neil goosebumps!

  • Beautiful Neil Diamond song with great lyrics.

  • David Cook knocked the socks off of this song. This version's good, but David Cook's was just phenomenal and could be a huge hit if recorded.

  • i wish david cook recorded a studio version of this song instead of I'm Alive, and then included it in his album. i really love his version. you're right, it's absolutely phenomenal!

  • Neil, other singers may come and go, but you will always stay with us! You are one of the best!

  • This is a song that reflects a lifetime of "first love" that became a reality again after 42 years!

  • ooh. the lyrics is amazing. hands up for neil. but davidC made it more amazing. honestly

  • i love you for saying that.

    i agree ^^

  • This is good but I prefer the live version on his Best of album.

  • You have to all be kidding! Who has had the incredible staying power, song writing ability and unique voice that moves through literally millions upon millions of albums. Not to mention sold out concerts after age fifty and still going. GIVE ME A BREAK that COOK can even come close! NOT IN YOUR LIFETIME!

  • Givehim time, baby, give him time. But yes, Neil Diamond is a total legend, and deservedly so. Anyone who says he isn't is deluded. But mark my words... Cook will be there too. And as a fan of Neil Diamond, how great it is that David gave him "goosebumps" from listening to what David did with this song. But, it was Neil's lyrics that are the beginning of the masterpiece.

  • absolutely beautiful tune....this is defo mine and my husbands song. its awesome. xxx

  • I am a HUGE fan of Neil Diamond & his voice is unique. His record in the music business is undisputable. However, I don't remember this song at all & can see why it was never a hit for Neil. When I listen to this version & Cook's version, I see Cook brought something more, more passion & feeling. I wanted to cry with Cook's version & it evoked more emotion from me. This doesn't take away from Neil's version or his incredible career & he's still going. Cook gave me goosebumps.

  • David Cook took a "base song" and made it SO much better. Better vocals, better music flow - it's just a beautifully enhanced version of the original. Neil's words are, as always, excellent.

  • Well it depends on your generation. This definitely has that 80s / early 90s vibe. Younger generations would prefer David Cook's version.

  • isn't it weird how you always love the version you hear first the most?? I heard David Cook's cover and think its one of the most amazing things. The originally is still pretty amazing though.

  • Although I mostly agree, I do have to disagree with a few songs. For example, David Cook's version of "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" I liked better than Aerosmith's version(though I still love Aerosmith's version). But on this song I agree, even though this original version is incredible.

  • Thank U

  • just love neil and no1 else had this so i made it so i can listen to it all the time

  • nice but david cook's version is AMAZING.

  • not as good as neils tho

  • just my opinion. i think neils an amazing songwriter but i don't think hes an amazing singer. although he puts a lot of emotion into it while he's singing i have to say.

  • both versions are good in their own way..

    i love neil's but i also love david cook's

    lol

  • nice song redone by david cook.

  • This was written in 1992, right?

  • it was in 91 but u were close

  • David Cook did this song justice.

  • When did he rite this song?

  • you mean *WRITE!

  • 1991

  • simply beautiful
