One interesting thing about German witchcraft trials is the estate of the executed witch was split three ways, one third to the church, one third to the local lord, and one third to the accuser. In 1630 one German duke ordered the estate be given to the usual heirs. Witch trials in that duchy went from several hundred a year to less than five per year.
