Its people like these so called "pastors" that cause division in Congolese society. They are criminals and opportunist that use people's own ignorance and fears against them for their own personal benefit.
Ancient Congolese culture prior to colonisation and Christian missionaries believed in witchcraft and the supernatural. These are parts of Congolese culture that are stuck in the "old times" before medical science was able to explain some of these diseases. If there is ever a place on earth where you can wake up in the morning with an unexplained growth or a little know disease its a Tropical country like the DR Congo where because of the climate there is a high risk of such occurrences.
These beliefs in witchcraft are no more true than the beliefs of some of the most remote tribes of the bush; for example they believe that when someone takes your picture with a camera, they also capture your soul. You and I both know that its impossible for a digital camera to take your soul but people fear what they dont understand. Some of these remote tribes worship the planes that fly over their heads as Gods; me and you both know an aeroplane is not a God
.And some of the most marginalised, and ignorant of knowledge in DR Congo societies and communities still believe in the power of witchcraft; and there will always be pastors willing to profit from that fear because they understand that people lack the basic ability to diagnose their problems or bad luck so they blame it on the works of the supernatural. Sad but true.
