  • I still can't believe this moron is our congressman!! His townhall meeting AFTER he voted FOR the bill was SO staged! Schauer must be defeated in 2010 !!

  • And I thought my country has idiotic politicians. lmao.

  • I was there as well. We are bombared by our reps saying "we need this stimulous bill". For what? If our elected officials don't know WHAT'S IN IT how can they be for it? Mark didn't know what the 'Fairness Doctrine' was either!? The crowd there that day was clearly not in support of the bill their representative voted for in THIER BEHALF! Some representation huh?? He either needs to resign or be impeached.

  • I didn't buy that he didn't know what the fairness doctrine is. When it has been a hot topic in the media for the last several months, is continually spoken of on talk radio, and has a Senator from his state calling for its implementation, he's either living with his head in the sand or he's lying about it.

  • Again, how is it that a constituent knows more about what's going on with "hot button issues" like the 'fairness doctrine' than a congressman? In fact Michigan's own Sen Stabenow (D) has been doing nothing but talk about it in the press and he doens't have a clue? Don't they at least run into each other down there in D.C?? Perhaps we shold contact her and tell her to let the guy who represents the 7th district in Michigan know what it is! That way she can give him his marching orders too.

  • Thanks for posting this video man, you did a good job, even if you accidentally referred to Bernanke as Sec. Treasury. I'm pretty sure this guy either had no idea what you were talking about, or is full of crap... probably both.

By the way... is that chick in the front row knitting?

  • Yeah, as soon as I watched the video I caught myself immediately. I'm thinking because I had just mentioned the treasury printing the money, I had treasury stuck in my head and that's why it came out that way.

Yes, she was. I talked to her after the meeting, and she said it was the only way to keep herself calm and preoccupied from most of the blabbering.

  • Nice points--I don't know Schauer but it doesn't appear he's being dishonest--he just doesn't know. He can't argue the point of inflation when we are going to print $787 billion. Typical Congressman.

  • I don't think he's being dishonest either, but if he's not dishonest, like you said, he doesn't know what he's doing, and you know he didn't read the Bill. The troubling thing is that his colleagues are probably just as inept as he is, and everyone looks to our representatives to make informed decisions. Unfortunately, this just doesn't seem to be the case.

  • I know two reps in the House from CA and I can attest to that. They simply go along with party lines and their parties go with whatever the lobbyists tell them to go with. When they're wrong, it's always somebody else's fault.

Inflation is a terrible hidden tax--there's no denying that. But here's one thing--the general public doesn't understand that either. Furthermore, those that do understand don't realize that the formula to compute inflation is outdated, thus understating inflation.

  • Sad to say he represents me also...great job holding him accountable.

  • Thanks, he can be difficult to pin down by giving you a definitive answer, and I knew it would be difficult to even get my question in being they were screening them. It would be great if more people would put their congressman on the spot for the decisions they make.
