i like the way they pointed out about the helmets, but weres there May West life jackets ? if your going to tell people to do it properly, then lead by example.
@TheStgmp44 If they were in landing craft/re-enacting the actual hitting of the beach you'd be right on. But in reality a lot of things like the life belts were ditched once on the beach. Assault vests were ditched, gas masks were ditched. Some guys even stuffed their rations/personal items in pockets of their HBTs and stuffed clothing into their field jacket tightened by the cartridge belt and ditched their M28 haversacks altogether
Soon to be released Battlefield to Remembrance "The Directors Cut" an extended version of the original documentary . New scenes including an interview with Len Lomel 2nd Ranger Battalion who destroyed the German guns at Pointe Du Hoc. The programme explores the hobby of living historians who reenact WW2
My great uncle was one of Rudder's Rangers. There is a bronze plaque there dedicated to him and telling his story. His name was James Alexander. Two days after they landed he was captured by the German's. He was sent to find their gunner. On his way back he came across a patrol of 6 Germans. He used to say that they pointed their guns at me and said if I came peacefully then they wouldn't shoot and that sounded like a good proposition at the time. He spent the rest of the war in a POW camp.
2nd Rangers had the orange insignia with on it on the back of their helmet. And they didn't wear regular infantry boots and leggings, they wore paratrooper boots.
My grate grandad got torpedoed twice and survived...and he was also in D-Day. He was with the flame thrower unit cooking enemies till golden brown but got blown up.... SADLY!!!
Re-enacting and living history? I'm all for it on one condition: I'd be happy to provide these clowns the oppurtunity to dig themselves a hole and withstand an hour long heavy artillery barrage first. Survivors would be entitled to wear the uniform in public.

LOL.. first try to speak normal english and then talk about serious re-enacting.. gear, rations, helmets dont make you a better person then other re-enactors.. i just dont get these guys...
posing for photos and eating from ration boxes isn't re-enacting anything. the thing that shits me about these kinda guys is that they spend too much time comparing who has the best gear and looks the part, but if you ask them to jump on the ground n crawl or actually look like their fighting they would look at you as if your crazy cause they might scratch a hole in their trousers. wankers
a guy i know like 40 years today hes father was in d-day and he sed that hes father was in the first wave ! this was in omaha and he told me that rhey were like 100-200 men in the first wave after that only 10-20 servived and hes father was one of them ! then the second wave camed and so on !
@PeanutButtaTime2 that is kind of weird in 60 years your grandfather was born your mother and you and you are 15 that means that 45 years are left for two people than they were like 22 years to hook up and get a kid?? correct me if i am wrong and i am sorry if i am wrong (and if you didnt inderstand this text lol)
I'm a re-enactor myself, and everything these guys say is totally true. If you don't do it fully, there's no point in doing it. It's al about those who served and died for you, so you should atleast do it the way they had to.
And for those who are asking about stuff for it, you generally buy the uniform and equipment online or from stalls at events or traders. The weapons you can usually only buy from traders, and you generally need to be in a group do get one.
Personally, I have mixed feelings about this. Though I feel the reenacting people have positive motives. 1:59 if you are audacious enough, you would serve your country the way they did. That is the ultimate honor to those who fell.
yeah, i hear ya on this one. I am a reenactor myself and a majority of the guys in my unit have served, are serving, or will serve in the armed forces at some point in their life. nice vid though
It is great these days to see these people honoring our history in such a way that you don't see a lot of anymore. I often ask myself when it became 'politically incorrect' to not acknowledge such a great heritage and history such as that of America. The men that put on that uniform and that gear were scaling that cliff face known as Point Du Hoc to do their part to save the world. Let us never forget these men or these places. God Bless America.
i watch these movies and read these books and learn about previous wars like ww2 and before, and let me tell u something, i do not have the balls, not even close, to what those guys who fought in those wars. you know, how did they summon themselves to run into battle when they knew they were fucked? my god man, it just impresses me so much the men who fough on a front line in any war ww2 or previous./
I know a story of men with balls. A Canadian regiment in the British army right after D-DAY were told to take a Hill held by the SS (Hill 122 or another number similar to that). They marked right up that hill, being cut down by MG42s, and none of them ran or retreated. They kept going, until the SS hitler's dedicated men, stopped firing, because they respected those men, of whom, only three were still walking up the hill. They had the ultimate balls to walk into that kind of fire. God bless them
i said "marked right up that hill" but meant marched. Sorry brainlapse there.
And that is just one story, there are thousands of others like that. I re-enact just to keep the memory of their deeds alive. And to remember those of my family killed in ww2 and ww1, during the blitz and combat. (I live in the England). and to remember all the others who also died.

I think what they are doing is awesome! Most people in America don't know who was in WW II! Keep what the Veterans did alive!
