American comedy has global appeal,'it does what it says on the tin'. There isn't much sophistication, subtleness.. but if it is funny then the people will laugh and America has produced lots of great comedy.

Being British I personally prefer our humour as it requires thought... plus know no one does 'parody' better than us. We just have a much better understanding at observational humour and 'taking the piss' out of people without them realising.. the masters of subtly.
