this is great but i must admit that i was a bit disappointed when she talked about the string damper =/ i mean because the hardest part of playing this is (i guess) keeping the other strings from ringing and i actually thought she was doing it herself =/

Nothing special about her. She only plays the style in which many guitarists used to play in middle of '80. Including Eddie Van Halen. But it gets boring pretty soon. It's just "acrobatics" on guitar. That's for teens really.

She was never at the level of real guitar masters.

oh dear.. what year do you live in? We're in 2008 now. Eddie was a pioneer, but then so were the Write bros, but we don't say they made better planes than Lockheed.. Andy Timmons (my opinion) is the greatest guitarist ever.. It's a style thang brah. lol

Paul Gilbert probably is the best, and at least most versatile shredder til this date, closely followed by the best malmsteen-ripper ever: Michael Romeo (He's like Yngwie, only he has skill :D)

Gilbert is very versatile (and in my opinion is more musical in his playing than most shredders) but there are specialists who surpass him in various fields. Petrucci can alternate pick circles around anyone, and Batten schools everyone Van Halen included at two handed tapping. Guthrie Govan is another really talented all-around player. In any case there's room for everyone, although I certainly don't think VH can hold a candle to more recent (and some earlier) players in any area.

Yeah, I really enjoy both the guitarists you mentioned, even though if you like petrucci, you should like Romeo aswell (after all, symph X and Dream Theater are the two biggest bands within prog metal to this date). And I also think Guthrie Givan is one of the tightest shredders out there - The only part I disagree with is the batten part. I seriously prefer Van Halen's, or even better; Paul Gilbert's tapping to battens. And how can I not mention Romeos tapping?

Allright, then I suggest you have a look at the tapping lick in "Wonderful Slippery Thing" by Govan... very very few people in this world can repeat that after him :)

Jennifer Batten is a guitar virtuoso,she's got it all,the impossible lick,and she's not boring like some guys playing the same stuff up and down,with the volume crancked up,some got speed,but they don't say nothing,you gotta know all the vocabullary, in order to speak, and Jennifer is great,fast,clean,melodic, and it all makes sense in a very musical way!

check it out (if you haven't already), Frank Gambale, Allan Holdsworth, John Mclaughlin, they all have "wrinkles", and age has made them so much better !
