Unfortunately this parent is quite stressed out by something - most likely the people video taping. You can tell this by the quick movements, alerted and upright head, vocalizations, and peering underwater (trying to identify any submerged potential threats)

I had an opposite experience on our lake here in B.C. There were a couple of loons in the lake, late aft, so I quietly slipped into the water, and swam around with them. I thought for sure they'd swim away, but they stayed......they were as interested in me, as I was in them!
Every since, my husband has nicknamed me "Swims with Loons, Fights with Racoons"....but that's another story. :) Annie
I have a love/hate thing going on with the loons since one attacked me while I was swimming across a lake last summer in VT. Well, it did the "dance of death" and every time it went underwater I thought it was going to spear me, or come up right in front of me and peck my eyeballs out! I do love them though...they just interfere with my love of swimming! I love your vids! Peace, Suzy
I want one as a pet

What a great video! You showed great respect for the loon by not approaching too closely or coming between mom & babies. Thank You

They're a beautiful bird, I love the listen to them in the morning when everything is so quiet and they're the only thing you can hear.
