Why was it not good to swap the Technics cartridge/headshell with the Hitachi headshell?
Was the sound not good and if so, did you adjust the tone arm counterweight to compensate for a slight weight difference between the two different headhshells? Sometimes the weight difference can be the main cause for any sound distortion, so adjusting the counterweight can often remedy the situation.
That is a really nice setup you got there. Also I didn't know you could get an internet radio component that you hook to the stereo. I always thought you'd just have to hook the stereo to the computer or something.
Do you have to pay any monthly fees to get internet radio?
No, you just have to buy the radio and that's it. It comes with an access code for a web site were you can organize your favourite stations, make folders etc.
But I think the unit would even work without the web site access, only thing it needs is a service that provides a list of radio stations that the radio can access.
Nice presentation of your system. Iooks very organized. On the topic of radio broadcasting, I was wondering if Germany has HD radio over the airwaves and if you do, how popular is it?
As far as I know we don't have any HD radio. We do have digital on air radio, called DAB. It's as unpopular as possible. I do have a DAB receiver, but I don't get any reception where I live.
The shelves were bought at IKEA, it's their "IVAR" series. You can adjust the height of the boards very well, that's why it's looking so good. I had to add some back parts for the records, so that they don't fall out :)
My CD player is a Magnavox CDB-262- it's from the days when Philips made some of the best CD players anywhere. I bought it at a thrift store for US$5. Right now it's playing through some Infinity micropower computer speakers. Later I'll modify the speakers with a subwoofer output and connect it to a big Rauland PA amp I have and an old home theater subwoofer.
I never listen to Analogue radio any more either. I have internet radio on my PSP and there's loads of great 80's stations I found, just as long as I'm near a WIFI it works fine.
I used to listen to FM radio a lot. Always with a cassette deck ready to record whatever I liked. But things have changed, my former favourite radio station (used to play Classic Rock and 80s) now plays the modern garbage music as well. Even the public radio stations are crap now. So it all just not worth my time anymore. Internet radio is much better.
Key point you made - 1000 LP's but no time to listen to them.
In the modern world, I found that I simply do not have time for vinyl. It takes way too much effort, care, adjustment, cleaning, restoring, basically babying not only records but players to enjoy records. So my whole collection is out.
@DrCassette I was speaking in terms of digital music were its more instantaneous vs. a slightly more tedious manner in which old playback systems require.
I completely agree with you on internet radio, I see its the same with FM radio around the world. My local stations in California USA suck as well :op
Very nice setup ! I like how you have a place for everything.I have a lot of records,8 tracks and so on .I have it in a wild order but know where everything is at.
The JVC KD-V6 has never had any problems, since I adjusted the electronics properly. The cassette deck you mean is the JVC KD-VR5, and that indeed is still broken. Hopefully I'll fix that one one day...
The only English language thing I always have problems with are the tenses :D

@TorontoJon
The Technics and the Hitachi headshells require completely different tone arm adjustments.

Did you build those shelves yourself? It fits the stereo components and LPs perfectly.

I do have a RFT cassette deck. The video I made about it is gone due to copyright issues.

I generally have no time to listen to music, doesn't matter if it's coming off records, cassettes, CD etc.

I thought the JVC KDV-6 was once broken?
Oh, by the way: no insult intended, but it says "I didn't have" instead of "I didn't had".
Great video as usual! :)
