  • Why was it not good to swap the Technics cartridge/headshell with the Hitachi headshell?

Was the sound not good and if so, did you adjust the tone arm counterweight to compensate for a slight weight difference between the two different headhshells? Sometimes the weight difference can be the main cause for any sound distortion, so adjusting the counterweight can often remedy the situation.

  • @TorontoJon

The Technics and the Hitachi headshells require completely different tone arm adjustments.

  • I love those big black 80's stereos, and the old silver 70's ones too.

  • i used to own one of those hitatchis execpt myine was wooden

  • Nice stuff. You're like a "oldtimer" in matter of soundsystems, ain't you?:))

Many vintage electronics in your room.I like the vynil records most.

    Greets,Dr.Cassette :)

Maybe you can help me with a problem I have with my JVC UX-A 70 MDR MicroSystem.

[the dump is full of surprises, maybe you come across a faulty one and manage to help me with the MD mechanism...who knows?]

  • That is a really nice setup you got there. Also I didn't know you could get an internet radio component that you hook to the stereo. I always thought you'd just have to hook the stereo to the computer or something.

Do you have to pay any monthly fees to get internet radio?

  • @wilkes85

No, you just have to buy the radio and that's it. It comes with an access code for a web site were you can organize your favourite stations, make folders etc.

But I think the unit would even work without the web site access, only thing it needs is a service that provides a list of radio stations that the radio can access.

  • A nice hi-tec room you have there Jonas. :)

  • @jgmcevoy

I gave the Schneider receiver to a friend.

  • Nice presentation of your system. Iooks very organized. On the topic of radio broadcasting, I was wondering if Germany has HD radio over the airwaves and if you do, how popular is it?

  • @margaretsville

As far as I know we don't have any HD radio. We do have digital on air radio, called DAB. It's as unpopular as possible. I do have a DAB receiver, but I don't get any reception where I live.

  • 400th vid congrats man thats awsome

  • Did you build those shelves yourself? It fits the stereo components and LPs perfectly.

  • @vwestlife

The shelves were bought at IKEA, it's their "IVAR" series. You can adjust the height of the boards very well, that's why it's looking so good. I had to add some back parts for the records, so that they don't fall out :)

  • My CD player is a Magnavox CDB-262- it's from the days when Philips made some of the best CD players anywhere. I bought it at a thrift store for US$5. Right now it's playing through some Infinity micropower computer speakers. Later I'll modify the speakers with a subwoofer output and connect it to a big Rauland PA amp I have and an old home theater subwoofer.

  • Have you had any RFT decks?

  • @douro20

I do have a RFT cassette deck. The video I made about it is gone due to copyright issues.

  • Didn't Magnat make floor speakers at one time?

  • I never listen to Analogue radio any more either. I have internet radio on my PSP and there's loads of great 80's stations I found, just as long as I'm near a WIFI it works fine.

  • @CoolDudeClem

I used to listen to FM radio a lot. Always with a cassette deck ready to record whatever I liked. But things have changed, my former favourite radio station (used to play Classic Rock and 80s) now plays the modern garbage music as well. Even the public radio stations are crap now. So it all just not worth my time anymore. Internet radio is much better.

  • Jonas

    Just great show as always

    Regards

    Richard GB

  • Key point you made - 1000 LP's but no time to listen to them.

In the modern world, I found that I simply do not have time for vinyl. It takes way too much effort, care, adjustment, cleaning, restoring, basically babying not only records but players to enjoy records. So my whole collection is out.

  • @wendileona

    I don't agree.

I generally have no time to listen to music, doesn't matter if it's coming off records, cassettes, CD etc.

  • @DrCassette I was speaking in terms of digital music were its more instantaneous vs. a slightly more tedious manner in which old playback systems require.

I completely agree with you on internet radio, I see its the same with FM radio around the world. My local stations in California USA suck as well :op

  • Many thanks for showing us your current set up. Much appreciated.

  • you have the same vcr as me

    its a very high qality

  • Very nice setup ! I like how you have a place for everything.I have a lot of records,8 tracks and so on .I have it in a wild order but know where everything is at.

  • @steelrain3

That's the most inportant thing - to know where everything is! And very often, I forget were I put things :D

  • your colection of vinyl and tapes looks very well organised comperd to mine witch is a bit messy

  • I've always wanted to see a presentation of your main stereo system!

I thought the JVC KDV-6 was once broken?

Oh, by the way: no insult intended, but it says "I didn't have" instead of "I didn't had".

    Great video as usual! :)

  • @MacPhantom

The JVC KD-V6 has never had any problems, since I adjusted the electronics properly. The cassette deck you mean is the JVC KD-VR5, and that indeed is still broken. Hopefully I'll fix that one one day...

The only English language thing I always have problems with are the tenses :D
