@sedjetra An experienced pilot will refuse to fly when he realizes that all ground radars are down and his air force has no AWACS. One of three things happened to Iraqi pilots 1. They died 2. They refused to fly 3. they fled to Iran with their aircraft. A large number of Iranian aircraft are former Iraqi air force aircraft.

Todays air forces really shouldn't be engaging in too many sub sonic dog fights although the US and Indian Air forces still train in these skills to a high degree. Syria is the most likely battle ground and I expect some form of proxy war here. Al Arabia reports 15000 Iranian troops deployed to Syria but I find Al Arabia reports highly suspect. Geo politics and not Nukes are the reason for US involvement.
