man, this song could even be more beautiful if they chose someone who can pronounce english if not perfectly at least clearly. never mind if he's out of tune
@mizwyn emotionless? dunno what you mean. but what im saying is, like in Maho's case, they chose Sowelu to sing and not the initial dubber. they could've done that also to Koyuki
@Light4494 lol dude... do u know what u say? ppl might call u a heretic... the way they sing its like trademark of this anime... it gives it a personality to this.
@ILazyBoy666I I still prefer the Japanese singers. Although their English isn't perfect, they can actually hold a note and the personality is still there.
@takura13 this song is from a japonese anime, it would be a little bit stupid to use english singers, this song is amazing. you should go check the anime before saying anything, but everyone have their own opinion, and i think that you are wrong
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
guh, the idea that people would be amazed by Koyuki's voice and that Beck ended up with such a fanbase is just soooo much more believable in the dub. An American audience would just laugh and be confused at this singing, and it's nothing special for Japan either. Sorry, but Greg Ayre's voice is just genuinely better.
It has a large fanbase simply because the original Japanese lyrics said with the accent adds more feel to it, it's not a matter of voice, but the feel of the singer.
Hahaha, the fanboys are rather unhappy with your comments. Well, I certainly agree with your whole heatedly. His breath control is awful, and, while the over all sound of his voice unobjectionable, engrish is N E V E R cool... ever.... at all. I sure wish they could release a DUB ost, over here in the states.
@ChainX If Engrish is "N E V E R cool...ever.... at all", then how come your entire post is so poorly written. "Whole heatedly"? "the over all sound of his voice unobjectionable"? If you're gonna rag on a kid because he can't sing in English properly, then for fuck's sake learn to write in English properly. : P
Well, I'm afraid my spell check can tend to, shall we say, "disregard" my many spelling and grammatical errors, thus resulting in the ghastly sort of comment you so mercilessly laid into.
However, my many spelling errors aside, I am dumbfounded as to how someone can prefer a hapless Japanese vocalist slaughtering the English language for, lets admit, no reason what so ever as being preferable to a vocalist who is fluent in English... Well, there's no account for taste, is there?
@ChainX Koyuki's Engrish is incredibly endearing, whereas yours is just off-putting. *you're, *you're, *YOU'RE!!! When you're trying to say "you are", and you're abbreviating it, it's "you're", not "your". For example, you said "Further, if your unable to bring forth"... that should be "you're". (And the 'Further' should be 'Furthermore').
Like I said, don't rip on a Japanese vocalist's inability to pronounce English correctly when you can't even type it properly.
I really wish your arguments had some level of validity. This isn't about typing now is it fanboy? If the only thing you can do to voice your opinion is make pitiful insults regarding my inability to use "your" in a correct fashion then your fail... In epic fashion. I prefer my English to be pronounced correctly, not slaughtered by some witless voice actor with out an ounce of talent just to adhere to some absurd Jpop notion that "English is cool".
@ChainX " I prefer my English to be pronounced correctly" The funny thing about that is, I prefer my English to be typed correctly.
Face it - you're trying to pan this song because it isn't being sung in proper English. It's the definition of hypocrisy that the very language you use to convey that sentiment is so poorly typed that it's borderline illegible. Koyuki's singing > your typing, because at least his songs warm the cockles of my heart. Your typing just makes me gag. : P
If you lack the IQ to piece together what I'm saying due to a few typos here and there then there truly is little I can say to attempt to jolt you into thinking outside the realm of fanyboy mania... Is what I would say if I thought for even a second that you were serious. You clearly have no ground to stand on beyond "I just love Koyuki". The fact that you attacked my grammar in your first response all but proves this. I threaten your crush and you lash out. Textbook, as they say.
@ChainX Haha, you're looking into it way too much. I just found it hilarious that you were ripping on the Engrish in the song while typing so poorly.
You keep wanting to shift this conversation to a more thorough, wholesome analysis of the singer's vocal quality - why? I love his singing and you don't, I love Engrish and you don't... that's about all there is to it.
Also, I LOVE this song, as I have now mentioned twice. But I'm also honest with my self. The only reason I do love it is due to it being from one of my favorite Anime. If I had heard it on the radio I would have scoffed and muttered something about the music industry being shit or some such. I have an emotional attachment to it. The fact that you mentioned Koyuki, a fictional character, whilst defending the song proves that you share a similar(albeit extreme) attachment.
@ChainX Is there something wrong with associating Koyuki with this song? You mentioned you watched and loved the anime - surely you associat this with him to some extent too?
Well I do - just as I associate the "to be or not to be" soliloquy with Hamlet (a fictional character) or God to the Bible (oh snap :p).
My point is, it's completely fine and not extreme and certainly not bordering into fandom.
@ChainX No-one ever said "just because Koyuki is singing this it's an awesome song". Chzrm3 said (which I much agree with) Koyuki's Engrish is awesome. He said nothing about that being the reason for the greatness of the song.
As for the song, it carries a very memorable tune with great lyrics and a fantastic voice. It's also very nostalgic of Beck; reminding me of great the anime was - there's nothing wrong with that. :-)
Try and see the music industry for what it is, child. Mature your tastes and learn how to recognized talent and skill. I love this song, but I would be lying though my teeth of I said it had so much as an ouch of compositional talent.
Further, if your unable to bring forth some sort of argument that over throws my own, well, your doomed to the pits of fanboy hell. Hahahah.
Also, while I'm not aware of the Japanese vocalist's name, I'm can assure you, the character in Beck, referred to as "Koyuki" isn't actually real. I'm assuming your not aware that this song is actually a cover of a contemporary JRock song, licensed for use by the animation studio for Beck. Nice advertising for the original band, eh?
