  • NICE MAN...LOVE THE HINDI LANGUAGE...WORKED IN LONDON WITH MANY PEOPLE FROM DELHI BOMBAY ETC THIS MAN MAKES LEARNING A PLEASURE......

  • he is teaching hinglish

  • @rajirajsarkar dear sir, this is immersion technique, which is widely used for teaching a foreign language. One cannot learn grammar rules + vocab altogether, the idea is the split them and learn them.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, sorry, but there are quite a few errors.

  • @Dzongka I would appreciate if you can be little more specific..

  • Namaste! Kaise hai? Mera naam Marco hai. Mai beesteen saal ka hoon. Mai philippines se hoon. Mai Goa se paas teen doste hai. At first i had a hard time comunicating with them.. But with your help and other online hindi lessons, now i can communicate with them better.. Shukriya! I just want to say, "jaa paana!! Tusi great ho!!"

  • This is great! I'm half Punjabi and want to better learn how to communicate my with my grandparents better. I already new some of this but I really like your approach! I shall be watching more of your videos in the future.

  • I have a question: Can you also say: "Kya bet hum?" instead of "Aapka naam kya hain? and "Mem Ashu hum" instead of "Mera naam Ashu hain" ?? Because a hindi friend of mine told me that...

    BTW: verry good vid :)

  • @HappyMolly1

[Kya bet hum] this is not very clear to me. Can you please send me again what you are referring to?

[Mai Ashu hoon] - I am Ashu

[Mera naam Ashu hai] - My name is Ashu

  • hahah meri hobby sona hai lol like my hobby heheheh

  • I already know Hindi through Urdu , but I don't know how to write Hindi, can you make a video on Hindi alphabet. PLEASE.

  • this is very a good series. but im wondering why you dont use devanagari script? i heard some people say its best to master devanagari first, and avoid english alphabet, because it helps in correct pronunciation. what's your opinion about that? do you also have devanagari script lessons? i am interested in learning to read hindi also.

  • @pixusbubblejet Thank you so much for your comment.

You are right and I am working on it. After learning initial lectures with english alphabet your confidence and interest increases a lot and then learning in devanagari becomes easier.

I am giving an online class today at 10 am (EST). Please find the details here..

    facebook.com/events/208022192612942/

  • @pixusbubblejet If the link does not work, go to "Hindi University" facebook page and get the details.

  • @hindiuniversity. Thank you very much. Maybe you could have 2 courses. One using the English alphabet for people who are in a hurry or just want to speak phrases for tourism. And another using Devanagari for people who want deeper study, to read and write, and who want to use HIndi for longer term. I want to speak well of course. But someday in the future I would also like to read newspapers and journals, and write letters or short essays in Hindi, and then maybe even Sanskrit..

  • नमस्ते, मेरा नाम जेड है

  • Seriously the best language instruction video I have come across! Thank you so much! Shukriya!

  • @TheDaynahnah Thank you so much dear friend..

  • what is the hindi word for book, hobby , movie?

  • @MrPsyker1

    [book: kitab]

    [hobby: shauk]

    [movie: chal-chitra or cinema]

  • @hindiuniversity Kitab is actually a loanword from Arabic, the Standard Hindi word for book is "pustak".

  • @Dzongka right!

  • ' 2:44 meri hobby sonaa hai...'

    Good work Sir,

    keep it up.

  • what mine of major....?

  • nice....very helpful.....thx....shukria!!!!!!

  • miami means wat?

isnt hai and hain the same?

  • @vishalkrishnan1 1. I guess you mean meraa/merii - it means 'my' for masculine and then feminine nouns.

    2. Hai is used for third person singular - yah hai (this is), while hain is used for plurals and second person singular - aap hain. So it goes: main huun (I am), aap hain (you are), yah/vah hai (he, she, and it, is; yah means this one, vah means that one).

I hope that helps. I've just started learning myself. These videos are going to help a lot.

  • You're the cutest! Very very very cute. Thanks. I will be attempting to learn a few things in Hindi :)

  • Thanks a lot.I am a South Indian tamil native.

Learninig hindi is easy with ur teaching and I am grateful to u.

    Thanks again

    Sima chandran

  • thanks for this class

  • @TheNive23 Your welcome!

  • नमस्ते ! :) Thank you very much for your lectures! They're very useful. Dhanyavaad!

But I have a question. I'm very confused about stressing the words in Hindi.

So I wonder where is the stress in "larkaa", and how does the stress change when "larkaa" changed to plural "larkiyaan". And the same with "kitaab" and "kitabeen". I hope on your answer :) Greetings from Russia :)

  • @programmist89 Sorry, "larkii" instead of "larkaa" :)

  • @programmist89

    [ladki] ---> [ladkiyaan]

    [ladka] --> [ladke]

    [kitaab] --> [kitabee]

If you go to lecture 22 & 23, you'll know the difference between singular/plural. As far as the pronunciation (stress) is concerned, usually it is put at the end of the word (ladkAA), (ladKEE),(ladKE). If you would like, I can video chat and clarify the doubt.

  • @hindiuniversity Thanks for the answer. I would like, but I can't video chat :(

So I've understood rightly in most cases the stress is put at the end of the word, even if the word doesn't end up with a long vowel? and if it ends up with a consonant? Thanks.

  • This is awesome !

  • Put hidi

  • thanks

  • very good

  • Can i ask you a question? What is the hindi word for favorite? Thank you!

  • @mevralicia Sure,

    favorite [man-pasand, pasand-dida, khaas]

    favorite food [man-pasand khana]

    favorite city [pasand ka shehar]

    favorite dress [pasand ki dress]

You can use any of them.

  • OMG! you made my day happy! i know some hindi, but not much, and i really want to learn more! thank you!!!!

  • this boy teaching is cute

  • Really interesting, thanks. Would have been helpful if the hindi words were written down, like the word for city, place etc. But it was well taught.

  • This is helpful and good. I also bought a book Hindi for non-Hindi speaking people by Kavita Kumar, most are complicated and hard that's why I also seek videos like this to help me understand the book as well. =) Its good to start in basics.

  • WOW your really good at this, very helpful too!!

  • mera

    meri

    wht's d diffrence?

  • @ThePochong

if you go through all the lectures, you will understand completely.

    mera/meri = My/mine

mera computer, mera brother, mera bhai [computer, brother, bhai are considered masculine]

meri sister, meri mother, meri university [sister, mother and university are considered feminine]

  • @hindiuniversity

    mera/meri = My/Mine

was a very clear way of explaning the difference but the examples you gave, only confused me.

As in english Mera computer and Meri Sister are both said: My computer, my sister. Can you explain further please?

  • @fehuperthro

    mera dil [heart]

    mera ghar (home)

    mera scooter

    [dil, ghar, scooter are masculine]

    meri watch

    meri university

    meri bike

[watch, university and bike are feminine]

It works differently than English, the pronoun changes in Hindi depending upon the noun.

  • Dhanyawaddddddddddddddddddd :) :) :)

  • whats the difference between meri and mera? i thought it was masculine and feminine...but the teacher says meri

  • @clawindsouza

    mera school

    mera ghar (home)

    mera scooter

    [school, ghar, scooter are masculine]

    meri watch

    meri university

    meri bike

[watch, university and bike are feminine]

  • Wow, this is pretty helpful! You can make so many sentences just knowing "mera" and "aap" and "hai." Thanks so much! : )

  • <---- Bengali. I am the only one in my family that doesn't know Hindi and I am so frustrated that I didn't learn it growing up !!! =/. I cannot wait to spend every minute of my summer learning this, I love you! =D

  • You're so cute lol

Thanks for this, im enjoying learning hindi thanks to you

    =)

  • @aLeesha240 Yes, they are similar. Script is entirely different.. but if we speak either of the language slowly, one can understand the other..

  • I`m wating that like your lesson.

I`ll go to india next week.

    thank you very very much.

    your good teacher!

  • I was looking at the English transliterations for your video and I had a grammar question... It seems that for all #1-8 (except #2) you use "hain" instead of "hai" when asking a question in the formal "aap" - yet the subject "naam" (in the case of #1) is singular. Does this mean the use of "hain" versus "hai" is due to "aapka"? But then how does that explain the use of "hain" when responding with "mera naam"? Wouldn't it be "hoon" if the "be" verb depends on the "your"/"my" adjective?

  • @misswisconsin09

You are absolutely right, It should be "hai" for all #1-8 (except #2). In fact I will be honest, this is my typo and I didn't mean to confuse the audience. I do see your point and I will make the correction.

In general, I discuss the difference between "hai" vs "hain" when teaching the hindi script.

  • @hindiuniversity Thank you for clearing up the confusion sir!! Your videos have been very helpful thusfar.

  • @misswisconsin09 Unlike Mandarin or other languages, there is no formal transliteration for Hindi. From what I know, Hai and Hain are one and the same words. Some people may even use 'Hein' or 'Hay'. I think it's best to learn Hindi characters, they're not many and pretty easy to learn.

    'Hai / Hain' = is

    'Hoon' = am (I)

    Cheers.

  • aap ka is for asking a male, and aap ki is for female?

  • @gigmix

    @gigmix

    aapka naam kya hain?

    mera naam John hain

    mera naam mary hain.

aapki school ka mascot kya hain?

meri school ka mascot trojan hain.

meri school ka mascot turtle hain.

  • @gigmix school, daughter, mother -- are feminine that's why you use "aapki" before them. aapki school aapki mother aapki daughter aapka bag aapka laptop aapka ghar (house) bag, laptop, ghar -- masculine .. Is this make sense?
  • @hindiuniversity Owh, gotcha. thanks a lot, Im gonna subscribe :)

  • @hindiuniversity Feminine singular and plural end in -i, masculine singular end in -a and masc plural end in -e. Correct?

  • I am going through your classes once again. Never enough of them! Shukriya!
