The source engine is capable of outstanding graphics, valve doesnt use it's full capabilities in order to keep the game specs lower and appeal to a larger fan base

Consider the delay between portal 1 and 2.

Now consider the delay between episode 2 and 3, which is half as long in duration if you're lucky.

They'd either better upgrade the episode to just 'half-life 3' and have some DAAAAAMN good engine/graphics/storyline upgrades behind it for the time it's taking, or heads WILL roll.

in half life 2 episode 2, if you enable developer commentary, and go to the level where you destroy the helicopter, one of the commentarys say that the idea of using helicopter bombs back at the helicopter was actually ment to be in half life episode 3. But because it succeeded so well, they put it episode 2
