I've had my D3 for nearly 2 years and have had lots of frustrations with it including the battery icon telling me that the fully charged battery is exhausted. I have to continually turn the camera off and on to take picures....I have one lens which never comes off, but sensor dust has been an expensive nightmare...the latest frustration has been the viewfinder information telling me on aperture priority that the exposure is 2000/s and won't take the picture......I'd never have another.....
Everything Canon did wrong with the 1D Mark III Nikon did right with the D3. While some will argue about mega pixels, the1Ds Mark III cost over twice as much today and still does not offer many of the real world advantages that a camera like the D3 does. There is no apples to apples comparison here. The 1Ds will give you superior resolution at over 2x the cost but it cannot compete with the functionality & all the other features of the Nikon D3.
@crispycritterz That is what I believe also. Nikon and canon always replace their camera with small adjustments. Sensor upgrade is a very good reason to upgrade from a crop to a full. This guy wasted time n money buying the d300 if he wanted the d3.
you conviced me, I am now going to buy a D3. I found a almost non used D3 on a ad, only 5500pictures taken for 3 990usd with memory cards and extra batteries. I think I am going to buy that one. Ive been having a lot of fights with my old Nikon D80 lately so I just need to buy a new body soon!
I really envy you. I too have the Nikon D300 and not really happy with the results from the smaller sensor. Being based in the UK although the D3 is almost twice the price of the D700, I feel that if I were to get the D700, I would feel that I'd wanna upgrade further later on. Like you said, the 95% coverage and slower shutter speeds just don't cut it. For the price of a new D700 I would expect it to do no less than 8 frames per second, not 5. Just one question. Why did you ditch your DX lenses?
@amazingmoose69 Not really happy with the results? lol go back in time n see what photographers in the old days used and make amazing photographs. You think having a best gear will make your images say WOW! I don't think so... these are just tools, be happy with what you have you spoiled brat cuz that is what you are and anyone who can afford a nikon d300. In other countries people still using film and only dream on getting their hands on these cameras.
Hello, I love to do landscape pictures just like you, but I also LOVE to do portrait shots...If I were to use this camera to do headshots, and portraits would the pictures be good quality?...Ive had a Nikon D3000 for a couple months now, and it will take me awhile to save up for this one, but i was just wondering. Thank you!! your pics are unbeleivable!
I'm also a Nikon shooter, what is your thoughts on the low ISO on the D3, would you also like to see Nikon make an ISO of 50 like the Canon 5D mrkII. I'm thinking when you do long exposure and stuff.
Hey, I'm in a situation (selling certain lenses to keep at certain focal lengths) and am upgrading from a d90. The situation is that I can get the d700 for just $150 more than the d300. I will be shooting outdoor and indoor sports and portraits/weddings. I'll have the nikkor 80-200 2.8 and tamron 28-75 2.8 for the d700 or I will have a tokina 11-16, tamron 28-75, and nikkor 80-200 with a d300s. Could you please give me some advice as to which setup to get. Thanks!
@QQQQcon because like you there is a demo model for 2949$ :3560 shutter actuations. and i absolutly need the rugged construction of the d3 because i shoot alot is heavy rain and 98% humidity and dust. and things like dual cf card slot and 100% viewfinder, and the grip wich is always connected the profesional shutter and i shoot wildlife so 9fps and 11fps in dx mode and i dont know what to de because the d700 can shoot 8fps
@pomexable Well if you truly do need those then i guess you can get it, but only you know if you really need them or not. The reason i went for a d3 is because i have been photographng for over 5 years and have discovered exactly how and what i like to take pics of and i know that the d3 will be a camera i use for a long long time.
i was going to get the D3 but i remembered the hassle on getting pictures in public with people looking at me in a weird way because of the size... got me a D700 with grip and the EL4 Battery ... any time i am heading to public places i just remove the Grip and its small (not that small though) but seriously the D3 is Sick !! gd luck bro
Another great video. Thanks for all your insite and info on all your videos. I'm taking some great photos with my Nikon D80. It's a great camera for us views who are new to photography. Your videos really help. Thanks.
Nice new camera man. Is the D3 AF faster than the D300 when using the same lens? how about the D700 AF is it the same with the D3 AF? I'm planning upgrading my D300 to D700.
Great overview! Congrats on getting the Nikon D3 :) Just a question.. Now that you have the D3, are you getting rid of your F100, since it's pretty redundant to have a film and FX camera at the same time.
No, I probably wont use it much any more but I couldn't get that much for it anyway. In the year that I have had it though it has done more than pay for itself.
Oh, I see. Anyways, you said in the beginning of this video that you sold all your DX lenses but wasn't the AF-S DX 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G VR ED-IF the only DX lens you had? Because based on your videos I have been watching, you sold your only other DX lens, the AF-S DX 12-24mm f/4G ED-IF before getting the beloved AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G ED-IF N. Were there other DX lenses you owned but did not show in your camera bag video? You probably got rid of the 18-55 and 55-200 with your D80....
I like the layout better than canon, they are easier to use, but that is just an opinion. there are other reason why I like canon but they are specific to me and what i like to take pics of.
for your wildlife shots, did u buy a longer zoom lens? i say this this because because i know u have the 70-200 2.8 which was 300mm on your d300 dx sensor, now that ur on fx is that still enough telephoto reach for u?
The 80-400 replacement will still be in the region of F4.5-F5.6. That's why I said the 70-200 with a TC would get similar aperture but with superior glass.
that doesnt matter to me and it is rumored that it will be a 100-500mm lens. and the teleconverter and lens combo is not as sharp as the nikon 80-400mm lens alone.
The Nikon TC-2.0e iii plus Nikon 70-200 F2.8 makes a 140-400mm F5.6 lens that coupled with the razor sharpness of the 70-200 and the aspherical element in the TC I reckon it would be the hands down winner.
Keep doing that bro, you are my star :-) I am doing photography too, you just a level higher then me, but thats ok, I guess thats why I need your videos.
Great way of looking at the camera and explaining it to others in your video. I don't know that I will ever leave my D90 but glad you were able to trade up to something you really like to use and enjoy. Good job Coner.

I have a 1.7x teleconverter. But I will probably trade the lens for a replacement nikon 80-400mm when ever it comes out.
QQQQcon 2 years ago
From all the reviews I've read, the 80-400 sucks ass. Keep the 1.7 and get the 70-200 if you don't have it. That way you'll keep a wider aperture.
speckyprick 2 years ago
thats why I said why the upgrade comes out.
QQQQcon 2 years ago
The 80-400 replacement will still be in the region of F4.5-F5.6. That's why I said the 70-200 with a TC would get similar aperture but with superior glass.
speckyprick 2 years ago
that doesnt matter to me and it is rumored that it will be a 100-500mm lens. and the teleconverter and lens combo is not as sharp as the nikon 80-400mm lens alone.

The Nikon TC-2.0e iii plus Nikon 70-200 F2.8 makes a 140-400mm F5.6 lens that coupled with the razor sharpness of the 70-200 and the aspherical element in the TC I reckon it would be the hands down winner.
