Wow Concorde is such a beauty. I love it. I wonder how much would have costed the KJFK to EGLL Heatrow flight for example, to a passanger? Also I am quite certain that the Afterburner was used on takeoff, but was it also used to achieve M2.02 beacause on flight simulator it is impossible to gain the altitude and that speed with regular thrust.
Concorde needs to be brought back, she should never have stopped flying, I know she was an expensive for the airlines and I don't know much about business, or money but I'm pretty sure the whole debacle could (and should) have been handled better, I bet if the prices had be more attractive to "normal" people, not a single seat would have been empty on any of the flights and it probably would have been more profitable for the airlines, but again I don't know much about that stuff. It's a shame :(
"I bet if the prices had be more attractive to "normal" people,"
Then she would've stopped flying DECADES before she did... because the FIRST rule of business is: Revenue must exceed Cost. If that doesn't happen, you lose money.
And since Concorde had huge costs, she needed huge revenues. Meaning "normal people" were outta luck.
@ImmortalSynn There really was no need to be condescending with me, I was only expressing my sadness and my thoughts on the subject, I never claimed that my ideas were the right ones which is why I did mention I don't know much about business/money, to avoid this kind of reply actually. I hope they refit the hole fleet to meet the economic Standards and transport passengers again. It can climb without afterburners on 30000 feet, so it would be not so loud. But it needs a longer runway for that.
Salute to the fallen Concorde!
Pilots and Plane gave it all, but it was impossible to land it safely.

@DreamsMemories I don't know if it hit 10k a ticket, not in Sterling at least. It's peak was at around £5000 for a first class return trip I seem to remember reading somewhere, which is pretty reasonable. Tickets on the last flight were hugely expensive though. @rugeley123 The A380 is experiencing to many defects and it is not efficient it has already been outdated by 3 way more efficient airliners ( 2 Boeing and 1 Airbus ) Sales of the A380 stand at 236 that is very very very low
@barthoedemaker IT was not practical. IT cost too much money to keep running..and ONLY 99% of the world could afford a round trip ticket. IT was designed in the 60's it was 100% ineffective. IT destroyed the OZONE....it could not fly over the United States...sound barrier thing. sonic booms. WHY R THEY USING JAMES BOND THEME????

My grandpa flew in a British Airways Concorde and gave me a cup holder he brought with him. Threw it away a couple of years not knowing its value now. Thought we'd have Concorde for many years... sad.
Shame this was retired. But at 10k a ticket, mostly empty flights, and aging hardware it was time to retire. Maybe someday a new and better super sonic plane will be built.
The most beautiful aircraft ever designed.Remember seeing The Concorde at Charles De Gualle airport in 1999 and 2003. a plane so extraordinary! and 7:26 Woman pilots are HOT ;)
@MrZulu2065 no, because Concorde's flight time was essentially cut in half compared to the slower jumbo jet which consumed as much fuel. That issue had been brought up in the past, and debunked. SST's are a thing of the past, and hypersonic travel is the new way of travel...at least I hope.
@beeroosterm There will be, give it time. The technology is there. Look up Hypersonic Aurora, it utilizes pulse detonation wave engines. The jury is out whether or not it actually exists, but I'm a believer! Also, Reaction Engines Limited out of Britain has something up there sleeves, it's called A2. The engines are similar in design to the SABRE (Synergistic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine). Look it up. Hope it comes to fruition in our lifetime.
@shugabuns You have no evidence to back up your claims. As anybody knows, Aurora had nothing to do with a hypersonic plane of the same name. Ben Rich stated clearly in 1995 that hypersonic travel has no future.
No evidence? It's called the internet. You obviously didn't take the 2 seconds to search for it, or you would have found it straight away. Seriously, look it up. As for Aurora, I was making a point that hypersonic travel is possible because of the sheer power of its engine type. And I don't care what Ben Rich said 16 YEARS AGO! There have been advances in that time. Hypersonic travel will happen.
@shugabuns You made the claim; you provide the evidence - I'm not doing your homework for you. I know what PDW engines are, but they are largely untested in real world conditions (yes, Rutan did one for a few seconds at very low power - big fucking deal) And Ben Rich commented in his book that Aurora was just a code name for the B-2 bomber project. You may "believe" what you want, but I require evidence. Your faith-based "evidence" holds no water.
“Super-fast speed — think Tokyo to L.A. in 2 1/2 hours — isn’t the only cool feature of the Zero Emission Hyper Sonic Transport proposed by EADS. At the Paris Air Show this week, the aircraft manufacturer and Airbus parent revealed its proposed passenger aircraft, which would be run on, among other sources, liquid hydrogen and biofuel......
The aircraft, which EADS said could be standard by 2050, would cruise at Mach 4 speeds nearly 20 miles high — inside the Earth’s atmosphere. Demonstration technologies could be ready by the end of this decade.’
“Still, Bond said that within 25 years 10% of air travel could be hypersonic. Some routes, such as Europe to India, would not work so well, because the plane would have to go a long way round to avoid having to travel at supersonic speeds over populated areas. But he thought the A2 could get to California by travelling hypersonically across the Atlantic, then conventionally across the US. Reaction Engines claims it would be quieter than Concorde ever was....
Bond accepted the project was still at the early exploratory stages. The next phase is more work on the A2's environmental impact. "Our work shows that it is possible technically; now it's up to the world to decide if it wants it."”
It is clearly very early in concept and design, but I believe it will happen. The technology is there, but the cost to develop has to be multi-national. I don't see how any country can go at it alone.
@shugabuns Oh, please. Kelly Johnson was working on the hydrogen powered concept 50 years ago before building the Blackbird. Ben Rich laughed his ass off and specifically addressed Aurora in his book as a code name associated with the B-2 project. "Still at the early exploratory stages/next phase/possible technically?" These are weasel phrases for "we don't have a fucking clue nor do we have a cent to proceed with our fantasy plane". It's not happening, Buck Rogers...
Sorry, but that's BS. You can't make a claim, then say "it's somewhere out there, go find it" and actually expect anyone to take you (or your claim) even halfway seriously.
Today I read what I was expecting for years in the newspapers: most pilots don't know how to fly the plane manually anymore, the FAA has found out that most accidents where due to pilot error, they blame most cases due automatisation.. I have always said there must be a flight engineer on board, simply cause pilots aint technicians and that's needed in certain emergency..common sense..not a checklist, and pilots must do more manual flying.
Just because of one crash this thing is taken out of service? Ever considered that this had been one of the most reliable planes ever build? Tens of crashes of the 737 and it's still in service!
We have to thank the French for building this gorgeous airplane. And there are still some people saying that French machines are unreliable...
I've had a Peugeot 405 for 14 years and it has never let me down!
Having only a very brief period of profit no further investment made towards safety (54 tyre bursts 18 of which caused major aircraft damage and recommended fuel tank changes after penetrations from tyres) and no investment in avionics sealed its fate. A great pity to see an fantastic engineering success from the 1960s which could have been upgraded and marketed towards the oil rich companies. Sad to see it go. Economically it was never meant to be. RIP passangers of the last flight.
Wonderful bird. born of the genius of some talented people ; unfortunatly, it came too early in the history of aviation. too noisy, too greedy in fuel... With nowdays technologies, we could create a new super(hyper?)sonic plane much more efficient. But speed is not the aim of the manufacturers today.
eines der schönsten flugzeuge was je gebaut wurde leider nicht mehr im betrieb der verbrauch muss ziemlich hoch gewesen sein und laut wahr sie ! ansonsten ein traum
it would take more that 1 billionaire to get concorde flying again, more like 3 or 4 billionaires. Its a technical nightmare to get something so complex back to a flying condition, It would be easier just to start over with a fresh new design using modern materials and technology but its not going to happen untill someone works out how to go supersonic without the supersonic boom.
@Kira200905 - Concorde carried 100 first class passengers. If SSTs had caught on, there was the option of carring 124 in mixed first/economy, or 144 all-economy layouts, but that never happened.
Concorde had a real narrow cabin, with four-abreast seating (about the same as a Fokker Friendship, only longer).
@lawker777 no, she is first officer in command of a very complex aircraft. The flight crew go through a lot to learn how to fly these planes. Better recognize canuck!
That's so fckn unfair that I never had the chance to fly with the Concorde. But at least I saw one 11 years ago at Charles de Gaule. Such a luck because I only spent 1 hour in Paris.
Unfortunately, aviation engineers have decided to build more and more BIGGER and UGLIER planes like the A380 instead of designing more supersonic planes.
It was the biggest fault to take the Concorde off the market. In my opinion aviation has made a step backwards in it's developement since the Concorde was taken off the market.
@foyleobserver That black smoke is the result of the afterburners (reheats) needed for extra thrust on takeoff. They work by dumping raw fuel into the tailpipe at a mindboggling rate!!!
Beatiful and fantastic type ! I do not understand! The Concorde crash killed 113 people. Once This is not TypeError. The Boeing aircraft and Dc, american air craft have more thousands of deaths. Why was the type of ban to concorde ? No have in the world similar performance aircraft with . This is the decision of the Boeing company ,it fucking Jew manager make. Thus eliminating the competition !!
@otto63363 Concorde did not stop flying because of any ban, The ban was lifted after the aircraft was modified and it was then flying again,
The only reason Concorde is not flying now is because it was too expensive to operate and maintain. When Concorde had its last flight it was fully airworthy and could have kept going if it was not for Airfrance. They stopped flying it and then British Airways stopped soon afterwards,
In Islam it is not permissible for a woman to pilot such a craft!

I don't have to prove anything to you! If you're too lazy to look it up, that's your problem.

@beeroosterm From LA times 2011
“Super-fast speed — think Tokyo to L.A. in 2 1/2 hours — isn’t the only cool feature of the Zero Emission Hyper Sonic Transport proposed by EADS. At the Paris Air Show this week, the aircraft manufacturer and Airbus parent revealed its proposed passenger aircraft, which would be run on, among other sources, liquid hydrogen and biofuel......
shugabuns 2 months ago
@beeroosterm continued:
The aircraft, which EADS said could be standard by 2050, would cruise at Mach 4 speeds nearly 20 miles high — inside the Earth’s atmosphere. Demonstration technologies could be ready by the end of this decade.’
not any time soon, but then there's:

@beeroosterm from the Guardian 2008
Reaction Engines claims it would be quieter than Concorde ever was....
shugabuns 2 months ago
@beeroosterm continued:
I don't see how any country can go at it alone.
shugabuns 2 months ago
@shugabuns Oh, please. Kelly Johnson was working on the hydrogen powered concept 50 years ago before building the Blackbird. Ben Rich laughed his ass off and specifically addressed Aurora in his book as a code name associated with the B-2 project. "Still at the early exploratory stages/next phase/possible technically?" These are weasel phrases for "we don't have a fucking clue nor do we have a cent to proceed with our fantasy plane". It's not happening, Buck Rogers...

@shugabuns
"No evidence? It's called the internet."

And there are still some people saying that French machines are unreliable...

juanjillocr 5 months ago

But speed is not the aim of the manufacturers today.

it would take more that 1 billionaire to get concorde flying again, more like 3 or 4 billionaires. Its a technical nightmare to get something so complex back to a flying condition, It would be easier just to start over with a fresh new design using modern materials and technology but its not going to happen untill someone works out how to go supersonic without the supersonic boom.

How many passengers could it carry?
Kira200905 7 months ago
@Kira200905 - Concorde carried 100 first class passengers. If SSTs had caught on, there was the option of carring 124 in mixed first/economy, or 144 all-economy layouts, but that never happened.
Concorde had a real narrow cabin, with four-abreast seating (about the same as a Fokker Friendship, only longer).

That's so fckn unfair that I never had the chance to fly with the Concorde. But at least I saw one 11 years ago at Charles de Gaule. Such a luck because I only spent 1 hour in Paris.
ColdCaseTwo 7 months ago

Thus eliminating the competition !!
otto63363 7 months ago
@otto63363 Concorde did not stop flying because of any ban, The ban was lifted after the aircraft was modified and it was then flying again,
The only reason Concorde is not flying now is because it was too expensive to operate and maintain. When Concorde had its last flight it was fully airworthy and could have kept going if it was not for Airfrance. They stopped flying it and then British Airways stopped soon afterwards,
andysim232 6 months ago
@andysim232 I did not know my friend! Thanks for the information. I'm sorry. The Concorde is a fantastic and unique aircraft. Aircraft Lamborghini.
