  • @PracticalGear this music reminds me of 80s but its timeless

  • gorgeous!

  • YouTube has your footage at the horrifically low 360p and I am wondering if you can get a 720p version up. It would be great to see what this really looks like.

  • This is absolutely beautiful; a great marriage of image and music! Come to Vimeo.com and join the many super 8mm and film groups with lots of cinema artists like yourself.

  • Thanks Paul,

it's your camerawork that makes this film so great. Don't take that away. You make the format look good. There are many cameras with just as sharp or sharper lenses, but Canon have one of, if not the best focus prisma. Believe me I have >100 cameras, and tested most of them. Film is alive, video flat dead.

  • 2:19. LOL, priceless upskirt

  • Love this! Is that Tangerine Dream?

  • Beautiful!

  • I simply love it!

  • Is there any real difference between the 1014 and the 1014xl-s??? In terms of visuals.

  • 1014 produces the best looking super 8 i've seen hands down! unfortunately, it's a bit out of my price range :(

  • Wow this was very well put together. I feel like i owe you money for viewing it.

  • wow i hope people recognize your work more often.

  • I think a test is fine, yes, But people can´t waste filmcartridge, chemicals and money in tests like it was video while there are some whom can´t afford them

and have to care for every single shot, every minute.

  • Velbon DV 7000 would be great (Testwinner) and the price is only about 4 or 5 Kodak films.

  • looks great!

  • *jawdrops* WOW!!

Where did you made the telecine? Was it a HiDef or a SD Transfer? I never thought the Exktachrome 64T would look THAT good! Sure a bit too much of blue but you can fix that in the post. Awesome upload! Thank you very much! :)

  • Thank you for the kind words! Telecine done at pro8mm

  • thank you :)

  • Looks great,

How much did this movie cost you, if you include developing, transferring, and the filmcartridge itself?

  • $350.00

  • cha-ching!

  • I'm looking to get a super 8, and i would like to know if there are any super 8's that are up-to-par with the canon 814 and 1014

  • If I get what you mean, you'd need Braun Nizo Professional or S800(?) I guess.

  • i recomend canon over anything

  • hey! Do you recomend more de CANON 1014xl than the NIKON R10???

  • im lookin to buy a canon 1014 xls. what all frame rates are on them. from what i read its single, 9, 18, 24, and 46. Is this right? Footage looked very good to looked like real good 16

  • what brilliant song is this?

  • Risky Business Theme

  • thanx alot mate.

  • @Paulyc44Super8

Tangerine Dream - Love on a Real Train (risky business theme)

Thanks for uploading. I'm sending my shoot to Pro8mm now :D

  • the quality is so incredibly good it almoust looks like a 35mm. And the colours are so bright and warm. Really nice!

  • Is that the song from risky business? Heh...

  • love on a real train

  • What tripod can you utilize for the Canon 1014?

  • Paul, your footage is excellent. Keep it up. Long live Super-8.

I have a problem with my Nizo 6080. When zoomed in and wide open, my footage comes back focused slightly behind the plane that I had visually focused on. I notice some of your footage is focused slightly behind what would appear to be the subject. Was this deliberate? Or are you having the same problem with your Canon?

  • Can any1 reccommend a quality tripod for a Canon 1014? I was told that it varies...

  • Is the Canon 1014 Electronic tripod capable?

I have the 1014 as well as the Canon 814 XL-S. Are either of the tripod capable, if so could you refer me?

  • Every tripod will work. The camera has a screw thread for the tripod screw mount.

  • Please where we can buy this type of flms in usa:kodak vision 500t ana 200t?

    great job!!!!

  • Hello! Was this shot with a 1014 XLS or 1014 Electronic?

    Thanks!

  • 1014 Electronic.

  • Beautiful. The 1014 is a great camera, in the right hands. Do you adjust the aperture manually? I find I get good results with 64T stock if I deliberately under-expose it by about half a stop. Better colour saturation and a sharper image.

  • Thanks so much! I adjust the aperature manually only when I want to get more detail in specific area of the frame. I do that by zooming into the subject and use the camera as a spot meter - then zoom out and set the exposure to the reading I had when zoomed in.

  • Sounds like a logical thing to do. Keep up the good work Pauly!

  • Please tell me a couple of parts shot in Pro 8mm 50D.Thanks

  • Great work! Great footage! Long live Super-8.

  • What's the difference between 100D and 100T? Should I use the former in day light conditions and the latter in night time conditions?

  • D stands for daylight, T is for tungsten

  • Why you do not shoot in 16mm. It's much better and not more expensive!

  • It's the difference between oil paint, water colors, and colored pencils. It's just another medium.

  • Super-8mm cameras have a lot of really cool built in camera features.

  • Very nice. Can you tell me what stock you used at 1:56. it's a short clip but the colors at dusk look amazing

  • Thank you! It's Kodak 50D repackaged for super 8 by Pro8mm.

  • looks like muir woods.

  • FANTASTIC. You shot this beautifully. Looks like its a sequence right out of a movie. Good choice of music to fit the visuals.

Shoot super-8 myself and this is very inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you! Super 8 is beautiful!

  • I must say tha the quality of your shooting is excellent , the exposure is excellent and the overall quality is very good. This is how super 8 should look when telecined. Is there a location where we could see this with less compression.

  • Is the music from squid and the whale?

  • Risky Business Theme

  • ahh.

  • Tangerine Dream!!! From the Risky Business soundtrack. Great song.

  • Super8 is no longer super8. It is super-frickin-tastic8, the new motion picture format.

  • Comment removed

  • Who did the transfer and can I get a less compressed copy?

  • i think the codec is hiding some eeevil grain. Neatimage applied frame by frame would be great.

  • Actuaully the Codec hides the true beautty of the FINE grain the stocks offer. I'd love to see the Vision 3. Besides grain is part of the medium. If you want super sharp then super 8 isn't for you. Go shoot HD.

  • well, i was referring to a recurring little bits of pixelation that I thought were compression affecting the grains. Super- sharp 720x480 (or even higher, i saw a 2k scan of 50d that actually looked good) super8 is possible, you just have to shoot it with a good camera/film stock, and do it competently.

  • Wow this is awesome!

    Thank you for this. :)

  • Thanks for the good word. Go super 8!!!

  • I don't know how, but this super8 is super-sharp. Issues with select focus though. Almost makes me want to use super8. Just wish the footage was cleaner though. Sharpness can coexist with grain when it comes to film.

  • Almost certainly.

  • nice!

  • Ha! Cool! Do you shoot any Super 8?

  • Incredibe.

Which 1014 do you have--the Automatic or the XL-S? Either way, this is so schweet!

It's just a shame Youtube has crappy codecs. Everyone else is using the latest Flash 9 (?), but these jokers are still stuck on Flash 8.

  • Oh my gosh! Super 8 forever!!

  • Awesome - is there any way I can download a high quality version of this clip?

  • This youtube vid doesnt give Super8 the justice it deserves. I got back my test film from Dywanes the other day and oh my god it fucking pwns! Digital doesnt have shit on Film. I used a Canon 1014 XLS and I have to say the optics are mouthwatering especially its fast lens. If anyone is thinking about getting into super8 DO IT! Do not hesitate! I mean look at it!

  • Dont you know where can I find protective lense for this camera? I just get the Canon 1014 XL S and I am worried about shooting without a protective lense. I have the HVR-V1U and I am using a Haze 1 lense as a protective one, but this lense doesnt fit the Canosound camera. Any inputs?

  • Nice work

  • Thanks a lot! I've read and seen everything about Westsider and you certainly have a great influence on the super 8 community, so it's very encouraging to hear from you. Thanks again.

  • Cool camera brother!!!!
