This is my favorite classical piece. It is a wonderful march for a wedding with all the fanfares announcing each attendant, and then the bride. I just happen to live just south of the MSU campus.
What's with the constant mirroring? This guy conducts like a Canadian ex-choral conductor. Talk about being carried by your ensemble! The concertmaster looks English...is he?
Sorry...an inside joke. I knew David Matthies (an excellent conductor and all-around great guy) when we were in school together at Michigan State University. He was working on his Masters while I was doing my Doctorate. I would only kid someone I knew would laugh at the joke!
The trumpets are actually at the back of the concert hall, behind the audience (offstage). In other words, they are supposed to sound very distant. But good observation.
It might just be the recording, but the sound wasn't that impressive. The beginning trumpet fanfare wasn't very clear and the balance was a little off
